SF49ers.com reports San Francisco 49ers S Ronnie Heard is ready to take over the starting free safety position after the team released veteran S Zack Bronson earlier this year. "I'm my own guy. I want to start my own thing here," Heard said. "I'm not trying to be Zack Bronson or Merton Hanks or anyone else. Obviously I learned a lot from Zack and I have great respect for him because he taught me about the NFL. But I want to start my own legacy."

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers S Zack Bronson (neck) is expected to participate in this week's three-day minicamp, according to his agent, Leonard Roth. Bronson's status with the team has been questionable since the end of the 2003 season. 49ers general manager Terry Donahue recently said it's possible the team could release Bronson for the $1.75 million salary-cap savings, but added it was not a done deal. Bronson, who missed four games last season with a bulging disc in his neck, has been working out in Houston this offseason and is close to 100 percent.
