Astros | Carlos Gomez doesn't think injury is serious

Wed, 27 Jul 2016 22:12:54 -0700

Updating a previous report, Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (hamstring) does not believe the hamstring injury he suffered against the New York Yankees on Wednesday, July 27, is serious. He's day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: A legit stud in Milwaukee, Gomez has done little in his season-plus with Houston, including a .215-5-29 line this year. Optimists can continue stashing him based on his speed/power potential, but 2016 is turning into a lost season for Gomez.

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (hamstring) left the game against the New York Yankees Wednesday, July 27, due to a strained right hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: The severity of Gomez's injury remains unknown, so keep checking back for updates on his condition. He went 1-for-1 with an RBI before exiting Wednesday's contest and is batting .216 with five home runs and 29 RBI through 79 games this year.

Astros | Carlos Gomez takes a seat

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 10:08:50 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, July 20. INF Marwin Gonzalez moves to left field and is hitting second, while OF Colby Rasmus takes over in center field and is batting sixth against Oakland Athletics SP Daniel Mengden.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez's disappointing season continues with his .143 (8-for-56) average in July with two homers and 14 strikeouts. At this point, there isn't much hope for a turnaround, and he could start losing playing time as a result. It's hard to justify holding him in mixed formats.

Astros | A.J. Reed, Jason Castro out

Tue, 19 Jul 2016 16:12:25 -0700

Houston Astros 1B A.J. Reed and C Jason Castro are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Dillon Overton Tuesday, July 19. OF Carlos Gomez will serve as the designated hitter, while OF Jake Marisnick will start at center field and is batting ninth. C Evan Gattis will start at catcher and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Marisnick is hitting only .200 this season and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues. Gattis is hitting only .147 in July but is still a decent fantasy player in two-catcher leagues because of his power potential.

Astros | Grand slam for Carlos Gomez

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 17:43:40 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez went 1-for-4 with a grand slam in an 8-1 win over the Seattle Mariners Sunday, July 17.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately, Gomez's big moments have been few and far between. Expecting a major turnaround is wishful thinking at this point, so don't hesitate to cut bait with Gomez for a better option.

Astros | Carlos Gomez skidding in July

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 06:55:55 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez has a .140/.178/.279 slash line thus far in July.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez had a mini resurgence in June with a .286/.362/.452 line, but he's back to disappointing fantasy owners. There's potential here, but owners in desperation of climbing the standings shouldn't worry about cutting ties with Gomez.

Astros | Carlos Gomez drives in three

Wed, 06 Jul 2016 21:35:44 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, three RBI and a run scored against the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday, July 6.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez came up a home run shy of the cycle but still set a season high in RBI on Wednesday night. He was better in June (.286-3-13, 3 SBs) after a terrible start and is an interesting stash candidate in deeper mixed leagues heading into the second half of the year.

He has re-emerged as a must-start in AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play as a mid-tier option for his power potential.

Astros | Carlos Gomez can't extend streak

Tue, 21 Jun 2016 23:07:50 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez was hitless in two at-bats with a walk and strikeout Tuesday, June 21, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim as his six-game hitting streak was snapped.

Fantasy Tip: A six-game hitting streak doesn't sound like much, but it was actually a season high for Gomez. He has struggled, but remains a decent play in AL-only fantasy leagues and DFS play for his power potential.
