Astros | Carlos Gomez drives in four runs

Tue, 25 Aug 2015 22:37:09 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez went 2-for-6 with a double, home run and four RBIs Tuesday, Aug. 25, against the New York Yankees.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has struggled mightily over the past three weeks going 7-for-60 (.117) over the past 17 games since Aug. 5 before his big game. He needs a few more performances like Tuesday before he can be trusted again in FantasyScore.

Astros | Carlos Gomez returns to lineup

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 14:54:49 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (illness) is back in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is coming off one of his worst outings of the season, but he's still a force to be reckoned with. Gomez ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) hasn't done much since joining Houston, hitting only .197 (13-for-66) with one home run and four RBI. Until he has some success with Houston at the plate, it's wise to avoid him.

Astros | Carlos Gomez on bench

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 16:15:19 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 19. OF Jake Marisnick is starting in center field and hitting ninth against Tampa Bay Rays SP Nathan Karns.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) has been a big disappointment since being traded to Houston. He's hitting just .197 (13-for-66) with a home run, four RBI and five stolen bases. Consider benching him in traditional leagues. Marisnick ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) has speed and power potential, but his daily value is limited while hitting ninth. Marisnick is a deep sleeper.

Astros | Carlos Gomez back in the lineup

Fri, 14 Aug 2015 15:57:34 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (knee) is batting fifth against Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon Friday, Aug. 14.

Fantasy Tip: Simon ($4,800, 9.6% of cap) has allowed 45 runs over his past nine starts, so Gomez ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) is clearly an option at FantasyScore Friday. Still, he isn't a lineup lock by any means, as he is struggling since joining the Astros with a .606 OPS.

Astros | Carlos Gomez out as precaution

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 11:01:48 -0700

Updating a previous report, Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez (knee) is out of the lineup as a precaution Wednesday, Aug. 12, after he banged his knee crashing into the outfield wall Tuesday, Aug. 10, according to manager A.J. Hinch. Gomez is available to pinch hit Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Gomez ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) to return to the lineup Friday night against what should be a spot starter for the Detroit Tigers. He's hit only .239 (11-for-46) with one home run and four RBI since coming over to Houston, but Friday night might be a great time to use him on FantasyScore when others have shied away recently.

Astros | Carlos Gomez resting Wednesday

Wed, 12 Aug 2015 10:30:06 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Aug. 12. OF Colby Rasmus is starting in center field and hitting fifth against San Francisco Giants SP Chris Heston.

Fantasy Tip: Rasmus ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has a triple slash line of .239/.286/.473 against right-handed pitchers this year, but he does have 12 of his 14 home runs off them, and Heston has struggled of late. Rasmus is a sleeper pick on FantasyScore at an affordable price.

Astros | Carlos Gomez reaches the seats

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 22:46:31 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez went 2-for-4 Tuesday, Aug. 4, against the Texas Rangers, including a double and his first home run since being acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) has hit safely in each of his four games in the month of August, and he is hitting .348 in five games since coming over from Milwaukee. FantasyScore players are certainly getting their money's worth from Gomez lately.

Astros | Carlos Gomez hitless in debut

Sat, 01 Aug 2015 04:47:52 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez had no hits in five at-bats Friday, July 31, as his new team dropped a 6-4 decision to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) will need some time to adjust to his new lineup, so take this game with a grain of salt. He figures to see plenty of playing time moving forward, so one game isn't going to make a difference. Wait a bit and let him get adjusted to American League pitching.

Astros | Carlos Gomez batting second

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 14:43:27 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez is playing center field and batting second against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Rubby De La Rosa Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) will hit between Houston's top two hitters, which is an extremely cushy fantasy situation. Although, he had comfy surroundings in Milwaukee, too. Gomez hasn't been at his finest this season, but he owns high-end upside and is worth considering in FantasyScore contests Friday.

Astros | Carlos Gomez to debut Friday

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 17:22:26 -0700

Houston Astros OF Carlos Gomez will make his debut with the Astros Friday, July 31.

Fantasy Tip: The move to Houston on the surface looks bad for Gomez ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) going to a less hitter-friendly ballpark. However, there's a trade off: He joins a much more explosive offense, so the fantasy impact will likely be minimal. It remains to be seen what Houston's outfield alignment will be with Gomez in town, but Jake Marisnick and Preston Tucker could see their playing time drastically reduced, especially when George Springer returns from the DL.
