Giants | Norichika Aoki resting Friday

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:02:42 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Norichika Aoki is not in the starting lineup Friday, April 24. OF Gregor Blanco is starting in left field and hitting leadoff against Colorado Rockies SP Eddie Butler.

Fantasy Tip: Stacking your FantasyScore lineups with Giants while in Coors Field against Butler isn't a bad idea. That continues with Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) at the top of the order, even though he's hitting just .220 (9-for-41) to start the year. Blanco could give you a nice opportunity to change it up on your opponents.

Giants | Gregor Blanco sitting vs. lefty

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 15:57:58 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 22. OF Justin Maxwell is starting in right field and hitting fifth in the batting order against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw.

Fantasy Tip: Maxwell ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) broke through with a home run and triple in the team's win Tuesday night. He's a mediocre FantasyScore choice, at best, against Kershaw, though. Maxwell has hit just .236 (78-for-331) in his career against lefties.

Giants | Hunter Pence won't return May 1

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 16:39:02 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (arm) is recovering slowly, according to manager Bruce Bochy, Tuesday, April 21, and won't return by his initial target date of May 1. OF Gregor Blanco will continue to receive the bulk of starts in right field.

Fantasy Tip: Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is a career .257-hitter but his average is down to .225 to begin the 2015 season. Blanco isn't worth owning in season-long leagues, but will be worth occasional FantasyScore usage against right-handed pitchers, due to his .259 career average against RHPs.

Giants | Gregor Blanco not playing

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 15:38:04 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco is not in the starting lineup against Colorado Rockies left-handed SP Tyler Matzek Wednesday, April 15. OF Justin Maxwell is starting in right field and hitting fifth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Maxwell ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) is in a favorable lineup position Wednesday night, but he's a low-end outfield option at FantasyScore. For his career, Maxwell is batting just .231 in 325 at-bats against southpaws.

Giants | Gregor Blanco likely to open in RF

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 09:58:40 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Gregor Blanco appears ticketed to start the season as the starting right fielder with OF Hunter Pence (arm) out. Blanco has played between 141 and 146 games in each of his three years with the Giants. The team is discussing using OF Norichika Aoki in left field. Blanco has been shagging balls at all three outfield positions this spring, as usual.

Fantasy Tip: The combination of Pence's injury and Angel Pagan's back issues should assure that Blanco will open the season with everyday at-bats somewhere in the outfield. He has late-round intrigue in very deep mixed leagues, but he'll be more beneficial to owners in NL-only formats to start 2015.

Giants | Travis Ishikawa unlikely to play OF

Fri, 06 Mar 2015 09:09:37 -0800

San Francisco Giants 1B Travis Ishikawa is unlikely to play the outfield to start the season with OF Hunter Pence (forearm) sidelined. Ishikawa has just three regular season starts in left field, and the Giants have OFs Norichika Aoki, Gregor Blanco, Juan Perez and Justin Maxwell that they can mix and match with.

Fantasy Tip: Aoki is virtually locked into an everyday role in the outfield now with Pence slated to start the year on the disabled list. Blanco probably will benefit the most with regular playing time for the first month of the season or so, but that'll make him the most valuable in NL-only leagues.

Giants | Norichika Aoki favorite for LF

Tue, 17 Feb 2015 15:09:13 -0800

San Francisco Giants OF Norichika Aoki is the favorite to be the team's starting left fielder on opening day, but he'll be battling OFs Gregor Blanco, Travis Ishikawa and Juan Perez this spring. Aoki has just 144 strikeouts in the last three seasons combined. Blanco and Perez are probably slightly better defensive options than Aoki, though.

Fantasy Tip: As the favorite to start in left field, Aoki will have late mixed-round value in 12-team fantasy baseball leagues. His power has declined slightly in recent years, so you'll be getting a scrappy player that is mainly useful as a stolen-base and on-base percentage asset.
