The Arizona Diamondbacks have outrighted RPs Leo Rosales and Clay Zavada off the 40-man roster and they are expected to become free agents Saturday, Nov. 6, according to Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic. The team is attempting to re-sign Zavada to a minor league deal but they do not appear to have interest in bringing back Rosales.

Arizona Diamondbacks RP Leo Rosales (foot) has been walking around without a protective boot, according to MLB.com's Andrew Pentis. "I'm not going to be running or jogging for a while - a week or so," said the right-handed reliever, who hopes the stress fracture in his right ankle is completely healed by early to mid July so that he can return soon after the All-Star break. However, he will continue to wear the boot while throwing. Rosales will begin strengthening exercises next week until he can play catch on two cleats.

Nick Piecoro, of The Arizona Republic, reports Arizona Diamondbacks SP Kris Benson threw five solid innings with Triple-A Reno Monday, April 12, and appears to be the favorite to earn the No. 5 rotation spot, which won't be needed until Saturday, April 17. SP Billy Buckner, the other candidate, gave up seven runs and 10 hits with Reno Sunday, April 11. Buckner is also coming off a poor spring performance. RP Leo Rosales is the most likely candidate to be sent down to make room for the fifth starter.

The Arizona Republic's Nick Piecoro reports Arizona Diamondbacks RP Leo Rosales was typically throwing between 92 and 94 mph, and even reaching speeds up to 95 mph, while pitching in Mexico during the winter. According to FanGraphs.com, his average fastball was 89.5 mph last season. Rosales is out of minor league options and competing for a spot in the bullpen.
