Texas Rangers 3B Adrian Beltre (hamstring) left the first game of a doubleheader against the Detroit Tigers Saturday, April 21, because of a strained left hamstring. He suffered the injury after pulling into second base with a double in the top of the second inning. He was replaced in the game by INF Alberto Gonzalez. Beltre is listed as day-to-day.

The Texas Rangers placed P Yoshinori Tateyama (back) on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 4, and purchased the contracts of RP Robbie Ross and INF Alberto Gonzalez. Also, RP Neal Cotts (lat) was assigned to the minors and placed on the DL. P Cody Eppley was designated for assignment.

Texas Rangers INF Alberto Gonzalez has won the utility job, but he will likely be limited to a backup shortstop role behind SS Elvis Andrus. Gonzalez edged out 2B Anderson Hernandez. The latter is headed to Triple-A Round Rock to play shortstop regularly.

Texas Rangers INF Alberto Gonzalez will compete for a utility position next season. He signed a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training earlier this week. He can play all four infield positions, but has spent the majority of his career at second base and shortstop.
