Rangers | Joey Gallo starting in left field

Wed, 02 Sep 2015 15:37:28 -0700

Texas Rangers 3B Joey Gallo is starting in left field and batting eighth against San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy Wednesday, Sept. 2. OF Will Venable and 1B Mitch Moreland are not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Moreland ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) and Venable ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. Moreland is out without the option to use a designated hitter, and Venable could enter a timeshare in the outfield with Gallo back with the big club. Gallo hit .218 with five home runs, 13 RBIs and a .448 slugging percentage through 25 games earlier this season. He is a high-risk, high-reward daily option.

Rangers | Will Venable making Texas debut

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 13:34:08 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Will Venable is starting in left field and hitting eighth against Detroit Tigers SP Alfredo Simon in his debut for Texas Thursday, Aug. 20.

Fantasy Tip: Josh Hamilton landed on the DL again today, so Venable ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) should at least see the strong side of a platoon with Ryan Strausborger ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) in the meantime. Venable is the one to own, mainly for his speed, but his bat could be more intriguing with the move to a hitter-friendly venue. He's not a bad option as a value pick tonight against Simon.

Rangers | Josh Hamilton placed on DL

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 12:31:21 -0700

Texas Rangers OF Josh Hamilton (knee) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, Aug. 20, with left knee inflammation. The team also added OF Will Venable to their 25-man roster.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) and Ryan Strausborger ($2,300, 4.6% of cap) probably will see playing time with Hamilton out of the lineup. Neither player is a great option for owners on FantasyScore, but Venable likely will be the more valuable option.

Rangers | Will Venable acquired by TEX

Tue, 18 Aug 2015 18:17:31 -0700

The Texas Rangers acquired OF Will Venable from the San Diego Padres Tuesday, Aug. 18. The Padres acquired OF Marcus Green and a played to be named. The Rangers designated OF Michael Choice on the roster to make room for Venable.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) provides depth for the Texas outfield. When he makes an occasional start, he is worth a look in FantasyScore, especially for his occasional extra-base hits and steals.

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 12:52:45 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Will Venable will bat eighth and play center field against Philadelphia Phillies SP Jerome Williams Sunday, Aug. 9. OF Melvin Upton Jr. is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Venable ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is batting .262 with six home runs and 23 RBIs agains right-handed pitchers this season. He is 0-for-1 versus Williams in his career with two walks.

Padres | Will Venable to paternity list

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 10:02:47 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Will Venable was placed on the paternity leave list Thursday, Aug. 6. OF Alex Dickerson was recalled from Class AAA El Paso.

Fantasy Tip: Melvin Upton Jr. ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) will get the start and bat eighth. Upton has two home runs, six stolen bases and is batting .237 this season. He is cheap and playing in a good hitter's park against a mediocre pitcher in Matt Garza, but you should be able to find better options today.

Padres | Yangervis Solarte extends hit streak

Thu, 06 Aug 2015 04:30:44 -0700

San Diego Padres 2B Yangervis Solarte extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a single in the first inning Wednesday, Aug. 5, against the Milwaukee Brewers. It is the longest streak by a Padres player this year and the longest since OF Will Venable's 15-game streak from Aug. 2-18, 2013.

Fantasy Tip: Solarte ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) has brought his average up to .269 with this streak, and as with all hitters on a roll he should be in your FantasyScore lineup until the streak comes to an end.

Padres | Will Venable off Monday

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 15:14:39 -0700

San Diego Padres OF Will Venable isn't in the starting lineup Monday, Aug. 3, against the Milwaukee Brewers. OF Melvin Upton Jr. will start in center field and hit eighth in the order, while SS Alexi Amarista will slide into the two-hole in the order against RHP Wily Peralta.

Fantasy Tip: Upton Jr. ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) had his last multi-hit game July 10. While Upton Jr. doesn't offer much cap relief, he represents too much risk on FantasyScore, and he can be avoided by owners.

Padres | Friars could still deal pending FAs

Fri, 31 Jul 2015 13:39:16 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy, RP Joaquin Benoit and OF Will Venable will not be extended contract extension offers, if they are not dealt in August.

Fantasy Tip: The Padres have a favorable upcoming schedule and playoff aspirations, so they stood pat at the deadline. However, they could still deal a few pending free agents, if they prove to be out of contention next month. It is a fluid situation, but at this point, it seems likely Kennedy, Benoit and Venable will stick with the Friars for a playoff race.

Padres | Ian Kennedy, Will Venable all but dealt

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 14:43:17 -0700

San Diego Padres SP Ian Kennedy and OF Will Venable are considered all but traded, as the Padres are expected to make a number of moves before the trade deadline Friday, July 31, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Kennedy ($5,700, 11.4% of cap) will likely be dealt to a contender, and he has the upside to return handsomely through the end of the season, especially if he lands in the right situation. After all, Kennedy has 52 strikeouts with a 2.83 ERA through 57 1/3 innings over his past 10 starts. Venable ($3,900, 7.8% of cap), on the other hand, projects to be a platoon player -- at best -- in his new digs. His value is likely to decline alongside his at-bats.
