Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez in a funk

Mon, 23 May 2016 10:53:20 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez entered the game Monday, May 23, in a 2-for-32 slump in the last 10 games while batting .183 with a home run and one RBI in May. Manager Walt Weiss plans to keep Gonzalez in the middle of the order to let him work through his struggles. "I've had him fifth at times and he's bounced between third, fourth and fifth," Weiss said. "And last year when he was struggling, I hit him sixth at times. But it can turn around quickly with him, and he's still dangerous to the opposing pitcher and opposing team."

Fantasy Tip: Car-Go appears to be fully healthy, so this slump should pass. Avoid him in daily formats until he shows signs of life at the dish but continue using him in seasonal leagues.

Rockies | Trevor Story, Mark Reynolds out Sunday

Sun, 22 May 2016 09:47:06 -0700

Colorado Rockies SS Trevor Story and 1B Mark Reynolds are not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Juan Nicasio Sunday, May 22. INF Cristhian Adames will play shortstop and bat second, while INF Daniel Descalso will bat seventh and play first base. In addition, OF Carlos Gonzalez is back in the lineup, batting cleanup and playing right field.

Fantasy Tip: Adames is batting .300 (6-for-20) over the past month after beginning the season with just one hit in his first 18-bats, while Descalso is 3-for-6 with two RBI this year. Use them in daily fantasy lineups only if you're desperate for salary cap relief.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez gets a rare rest

Sat, 21 May 2016 12:47:26 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is not in the lineup on Saturday, May 21, against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Jon Niese. Gonzalez has played in 40 of the Rockies' first 41 games, starting in 39. 1B Mark Reynolds will bat fourth, OF Gerardo Parra will slide over from left to right field and hit sixth, while OF Ryan Raburn will replace Parra in left and bat fifth.

Fantasy Tip: It's been a rough stretch at the plate to say the least for CarGo, who is batting .186 with a solo homer - which also accounts for his only RBI - this month and hitless over his last four games to boot. Raburn is always a savvy DFS play against left-handers, while Reynolds is sporting a .328 average despite striking out at his usual heavy rate. Both Raburn and Reynolds are sensible low-cost daily options today given how inconsistent Niese has been this season.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez slumping

Fri, 20 May 2016 19:31:08 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez went 0-for-3 with a walk in a 2-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday, May 20, and he is hitless in last 15 at-bats and has just two hits in his 31 at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez will turn things around eventually. Keep running him out there in season-long leagues, but stay away in daily formats until his bat heat ups.

Rockies | CarGo ends pair of long droughts

Sun, 15 May 2016 17:29:29 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and put the brakes on a pair of surprisingly long dry spells on Sunday, May 15, with a sixth-inning solo shot off New York Mets SP Jacob deGrom. The homer was his first in 25 games and snapped a 17-game streak without an RBI.

Fantasy Tip: The effort has to be a relief for Gonzalez, who has five home runs and 13 RBI through 36 games. All owners need to remember about the 30-year-old is that he is still batting .295 after today's game despite going hitless in 13 at-bats over the previous four contests. Gonzalez has been a much better hitter on the road this season, which is exactly where he will go Tuesday when the Rockies travel to St. Louis to face the Cardinals.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez dropped to fifth

Sat, 14 May 2016 15:30:39 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez was dropped from third to fifth Saturday, May 14, with 3B Nolan Arenado hitting third.

Fantasy Tip: Car-Go has hit just .167 the last week, but the move is probably a testament to how good Arenado has been as opposed to Gonzalez's shortcomings. Gonzalez has more RBI potential with Arenado and Gerardo Parra ahead of him, and he remains a high-end option against Logan Verrett. Arenado is a daily consideration as he pummels opposing pitchers.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez receiving two-day break

Wed, 11 May 2016 12:15:58 -0700

Updating a previous report, Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, May 11, so he can receive two days of rest with Colorado out of action Thursday, May 12.

Fantasy Tip: Seasonal owners shouldn't fret the occasional day off for Gonzalez if it helps him stay healthy and avoid any stints on the disabled list. He is off to a respectable start with 22 runs, four home runs, 12 RBI and a .306/.350/.463 slash line. Expect the power numbers to increase during the summer.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez takes a seat

Wed, 11 May 2016 09:08:24 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is out of the lineup Wednesday, May 11, with OF Ryan Raburn hitting fifth. 1B Mark Reynolds is hitting cleanup with 1B Ben Paulsen out against a left-hander.

Fantasy Tip: Raburn has a .389-3-6 split in 18 at-bats against lefties this season. He looks like a dynamite midrange flyer against Robbie Ray. Reynolds is hitting .333 overall and .387 against lefties. Give him a spin today as well.

Rockies | CarGo's hit streak goes up in smoke

Fri, 06 May 2016 23:48:04 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez was hitless in four at-bats with three strikeouts Friday, May 6, against the San Francisco Giants to snap his modest seven-game hitting streak.

Fantasy Tip: Chalk it up as one poor outing for CarGo, who faced a difficult matchup against Madison Bumgarner. He remains an obvious fantasy must-start despite the poor outing Friday.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez out vs. lefty

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 15:25:13 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Robbie Ray Friday, April 29. OF Ryan Raburn draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting fifth in the order. 1B Mark Reynolds is batting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Raburn is a notorious lefty killer and is a sound investment in DFS action this evening. Reynolds is coming off a three-hit, one-homer performance Wednesday and gains additional daily value in the cleanup spot in a potent offense. He's also worth a sleeper selection against Ray.
