Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez on bench

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 10:25:29 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 23. OF Drew Stubbs is starting in center field and hitting seventh in the batting order against San Diego Padres SP Tyson Ross.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is in a bad slump to start 2015, going 10-for-56 (.179) with one home run and five RBI. Until he gets back on track, you'll probably want to bench him in standard leagues, and avoid him at FantasyScore. Stubbs ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) doesn't come recommended for daily gamers, as he's much better against left-handed pitchers.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez dropped in order

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 14:27:10 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is being dropped to sixth in the batting order against San Diego Padres SP James Shields Wednesday, April 22.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has just 10 hits in 53 at-bats (.189) to start the season, although he does have a home run and five RBI. Despite his struggles, it's hard to argue selecting him at FantasyScore for the price, and he does have two home runs in nine career at-bats against Shields. Car-Go will be an under-the-radar pick in daily games tonight.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez receiving the night off

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 14:43:59 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup against the Los Angeles Dodgers Friday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Gonzalez from your fantasy lineups Friday. Drew Stubbs ($2,500, 5.0% of cap) is drawing into the lineup, but it is far from a favorable matchup against Clayton Kershaw. Stubbs is a high-risk, high-reward option for FantasyScore players.

Rockies | CarGo raking out of the gate

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 22:20:40 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez had a double and two-run homer Wednesday, April 8, against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez is 5-for-13 with three doubles and a home run to open the season. He posted just 11 homers with 38 RBIs in 70 games last season. Itís amazing what a difference being relatively healthy can make. At $5,600 (or 11.2% of cap) in FantasyScore CarGo is a solid option as long as he avoids the injury bug.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez pain-free

Sun, 29 Mar 2015 19:30:21 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (knee) declared himself pain-free Sunday, March 29, after experiencing pain in his surgically repaired left knee Friday, March 27.

Fantasy Tip: Injuries have derailed Gonzalez the past two years, but when healthy, he was a safe bet for 20-plus homers and 20-plus steals. If he is still on the board come the fifth round of fantasy drafts, the upside is worth the risk.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez bothered by sore knee

Sat, 28 Mar 2015 11:55:57 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (knee) was removed from a Cactus League game against the San Diego Padres Friday, March 27, because of soreness in his surgically-repaired left knee. He began experiencing pain after catching a fly ball off the bat of 3B Will Middlebrooks in the third inning but remained in the game for his next at-bat before leaving. Gonzalez claimed the injury was "nothing major," although he is scheduled to be re-evaluated Saturday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds as though Gonzalez was removed from Friday's game as a precautionary measure, although this situation still bears monitoring, given his injury history. When healthy, he is one of fantasy baseball's elite outfielders and a sure-fire first-round draft pick.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez lighter

Thu, 19 Mar 2015 10:40:27 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez said he currently weighs 210 pounds and feels great. He reported to camp at 235 pounds last season.

Fantasy Tip: Car-Go is the ultimate definition of risk-reward. He hasn't played in more than 145 games in his career, and he hasn't eclipsed 127 games played in any of the last four seasons due to various ailments. However, when he's healthy, he's perhaps the most consistent and valuable fantasy outfielders out there, and he hits in the best hitter's park in the league. In any event, he's an early-round target because of his upside when he's on the field.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez more in control

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 14:49:41 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is more under control at the plate this year, and his leg kick isn't as high. "He's more under control, and he's feeling right now that he can control the at-bats," hitting coach Blake Doyle said. "I'm looking for a lot of big things out of him this year." Gonzalez also said that he'll give consideration to laying down bunts and hitting to the left side to beat defensive shifts when the situation dictates it in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: With Car-Go, there is plenty of risk and plenty of reward. He hasn't played more than 145 games in his career, and he played in only 70 games in 2014 due to injury. However, if he can stay healthy, Gonzalez will be well worth his early-round price in fantasy drafts.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez seeing ball well

Sun, 15 Mar 2015 05:14:33 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (knee) hit a ground-rule double Saturday, March 14, and said he is feeling better than expected after a six-month layoff. Gonzalez had left knee surgery last August. "You always have your doubts when coming off a long break, but I'm seeing the ball really, really well. And I'm making good contact, which is important for spring training."

Fantasy Tip: Over the past four seasons, Gonzalez has averaged just 418 at-bats and carries the injury prone label for good reason. However, he has returned an average of 72 runs, 21 home runs, 71 RBI, 16 stolen bases and a .290/.356/.521 slash line. He stole just three bases last season, though, and that element of his game shouldn't be counted on. Still, four-category production is nothing to scoff at, and Gonzlaez enters his age-29 season with a clean bill of health. While the injury risks remain, just because he was injured in the past doesn't mean he'll miss time in 2015. Selecting Gonzalez in the early middle rounds could return first-round value.

Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez played in spring game

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 17:47:14 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez (knee) played in a spring training game Monday, March 9. His return came about a week earlier than expected.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez was nearly unanimously a first-round pick in fantasy drafts last year, but he once again missed time with injuries. He's an early-round pick who could return first-round value; however, his injury history makes him a risk.
