Yankees | Brett Gardner breaks Tampa Bay's heart

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 13:46:51 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner went 3-for-5, including a walk-off solo shot in the ninth inning, and finished with two RBI and a stolen base in a comeback win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner had his hand in the Yankees' final two runs, plating a run on an infield single in the seventh inning before ending the game by sending a pitch from Erasmo Ramirez over the fence in right. The 32-year-old is batting .375 with both of his homers at home this season, as opposed to .188 away from Yankee Stadium. Both marks figure to creep closer to the norm as the season progresses, meaning Gardner should remain in most lineups going forward.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner platooning?

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 16:10:47 -0700

New York Yankees OFs Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner, who both have hefty contracts, are essentially in a platoon with one of them sitting on a regular basis against left-handed pitchers to begin the year. The reason for this is the presence of OF Aaron Hicks, who has hit lefties well in his career. Hicks hit .307 against lefties in 2015 compared to .253 for Ellsbury and .276 for Gardner. However, Hicks has hit for 24 points less than Ellsbury and Gardner in his career against southpaws.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks not only has good numbers against lefties but has really impressed with his outfield defense so far. However, he's batting just .095 (2-for-21) and is a depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. If this setup continues, both Gardner and Ellsbury's fantasy value takes a big hit.

Yankees | Brett Gardner back in lineup

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 13:20:08 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (neck) is back in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays left-handed SP Matt Moore Friday, April 22. Gardner is playing left field and hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner has been slow out of the gates like a lot of his teammates, and he's not all that attractive against a lefty that has really impressed early this season. Give Gardner a game or two to prove he's fully healthy before inserting him into your daily lineups.

Yankees | Brett Gardner would have faced a righty

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 13:47:31 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (neck) would have started against a right-handed pitcher Thursday, April 21, according to manager Joe Girardi.

Fantasy Tip: It is good news the neck injury is behind Gardner. The outfielder has a .308/.438/.436 slash line to start the season with six runs, a home run and two RBI through 11 games. He is a mid-tier outfielder who tips the scales across all fantasy categories.

Yankees | Brett Gardner remains sidelined

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 12:25:59 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (neck) remains out of the lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Aaron Hicks is starting in left field and is batting seventh against Oakland Athletics SP Rich Hill.

Fantasy Tip: Check back later to find out when Gardner might return from his injury. Hicks impressed with his arm last night but has just one hit in 20 at-bats (.050) to start the year with his new team. Hitting low in the Yanks order isn't ideal for Hicks in daily formats, either.

Yankees | Brett Gardner scratched vs. Oakland

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 13:39:27 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (neck) has been scratched with a stiff neck against the Oakland Athletics Wednesday, April 20. OF Jacoby Ellsbury is playing center field and leading off, and OF Aaron Hicks is playing left field and batting ninth against Athletics SP Kendall Graveman Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to remove Gardner from your lineups where you can. Ellsbury was orginally expected to sit Wednesday, so he could be a sneaky option in daily contests because he'll likely be scarcely owned. Hicks could continue to see semi-regular at-bats with three veteran outfielders ahead of him on the depth chart all having lengthy injury histories. Hicks is a potential grab in deep mixed formats.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury out vs. lefty

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 12:39:18 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the lineup against Oakland Athletics left-handed SP Eric Surkamp Tuesday, April 19. OF Aaron Hicks is starting in center field and hitting seventh in the batting order. OF Brett Gardner is leading off, and 2B Starlin Castro moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Against Surkamp in New York, choosing several Yanks hitters for your daily lineups wouldn't be a bad strategy. Hicks is a low-end sleeper pick to save salary cap space, while Castro gains significant value moving to the top of the lineup.

Yankees | Brett Gardner starting to rake

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 13:27:02 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner went 3-for-4, including a ground-rule RBI double, and stole his second base of the season against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner finishes the weekend 7-for-12 after entering it 4-for-23, and will begin next week with a healthy .314 batting average and .442 OBP. The 32-year-old has not struck out in his last four contests and two of hits against Seattle went for extra bases (he failed to do in any of his first seven games), suggesting he might be finding his groove. Gardner should remain in lineups as New York plays host to the Oakland Athletics and Tampa Bay Rays next week.

Yankees | Brett Gardner OK after fall

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 19:41:17 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (head) sustained three small welts after hitting the back of his head on a concrete step Thursday, April 14. However, he claimed to be fine.

Fantasy Tip: Entering play Thursday, Gardner was batting just .211 through 19 at-bats this season. Daily fantasy players should avoid using him while he's struggling at the plate.

Yankees | Three Yanks regulars sitting

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 14:26:00 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner, SS Didi Gregorius and C Brian McCann (toe) are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 13. OF Aaron Hicks is in left field and hitting second, 3B Ronald Torreyes is at shortstop and hitting eighth, while C Austin Romine is the catcher and is batting ninth against Toronto Blue Jays SP J.A. Happ.

Fantasy Tip: McCann injured his toe last night but the injury isn't serious. Expect to see him back in the lineup for the Yankees' next game. Torreyes and Barnes can probably be avoided in all fantasy formats, but Hicks has some promise in a terrific lineup spot as a daily sleeper against a hittable lefty in Happ.
