Yankees | Outfield rotation to cease

Wed, 22 May 2013 15:06:34 -0700

New York Yankees OF Ichiro Suzuki was in the lineup Wednesday, May 22, because he has good numbers against Baltimore Orioles SP Jason Hammel. The move shifted OF Curtis Granderson to center field. However, if there are no injuries, manager Joe Girardi is expected to settle on a specific outfield every day that should consist of OFs Vernon Wells, Brett Gardner and Granderson from left to right.

Fantasy Tip: This seems to indicate that Suzuki will lose out on playing time, unless he's in the designated hitter role, which he'd have to share with Travis Hafner. There's less incentive to hold onto Suzuki in mixed leagues now, especially since he doesn't run as much near the end of his career.

Yankees | Curtis Granderson in cleanup spot, LF

Tue, 14 May 2013 13:19:33 -0700

New York Yankees OF Curtis Granderson (forearm) is making his season debut batting cleanup and starting in left field Tuesday, May 14. The team has decided that they are better defensively with OF Brett Gardner in center field. OFs Vernon Wells and Ichiro Suzuki are both expected to continue seeing playing time with Granderson back. Wells is the designated hitter Tuesday.

Fantasy Tip: The biggest loser in this scenario is probably Travis Hafner. His limited positional eligibility also hurts his value in deep mixed leagues, too. Wells and Suzuki won't play as much as they were, but they should continue to see enough at-bats to remain valuable in cavernous mixed leagues.

Mon, 25 Feb 2013 10:34:02 -0800

New York Yankees OFs Matt Diaz and Juan Rivera will see more playing time in the outfield with OF Curtis Granderson (forearm) out until May with a broken forearm. OFs Zoilo Almonte, Melky Mesa and Adonis Garcia could also figure into the mix. INF Eduardo Nunez will not be used in the outfield, according to general manager Brian Cashman. Yankees | Curtis Granderson, Brett Gardner to flip spots

Thu, 21 Feb 2013 13:24:38 -0800

New York Yankees OFs Curtis Granderson and Brett Gardner will likely be flip-flopped between center and left field during spring training. "We're gonna toy with it and see if we like it," manager Joe Girardi said after the first workout in which Granderson took fly balls in left and Gardner in center. "If we do, we'll stay with it. If we don't, we won't."

Yankees | Brett Gardner bides his time

Tue, 19 Feb 2013 21:06:23 -0800

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner said Tuesday, Feb. 19, that he benefited from being 100 percent healthy over the offseason. He ran, lifted weights and took swings in batting cages near his home in South Carolina, trying to build confidence. Manager Joe Girardi is still mulling whether to shift Gardner from left field to center, swapping spots defensively with OF Curtis Granderson.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner ranks among the leaders in contract rate and selectivity at the plate. It is uncertain whether he'll bat near the top or bottom of the lineup, too, but he is expected to be a regular. He is a must-start AL-only fantasy play because of his speed, and mixed leaguers will want him as a No. 4 or 5 outfielder or utility option as well.
