Yankees | Several Yanks regulars resting Saturday

Sat, 21 May 2016 11:12:29 -0700

New York Yankees C Brian McCann, OF Brett Gardner and SS Did Gregarious are not in the starting lineup against Oakland Athletics SP Sean Manaea Saturday, May 21. OF Aaron Hicks will bat sixth and play left field, 2B/OF Rob Refsnyder will play right field and bat seventh and C Austin Romine will start behind the plate and bat eighth. In addition, 3B Chase Headley is back in the starting lineup to play the hot corner and will bat fifth, while INF Ronald Torreyes bats ninth and plays shortstop.

Fantasy Tip: Of the replacements, Refsnyder is the player with the most offensive upside for DFS purposes. The 25-year-old hit .302 with two home runs and five RBI in 43 at-bats last season and was hitting .293 through 34 games for Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year.

Yankees | Brett Gardner, Brian McCann out

Mon, 16 May 2016 15:31:00 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner and C Brian McCann are not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Robbie Ray Monday, May 16. OF Aaron Hicks is starting in left field and is hitting sixth, while C Austin Romine is doing the catching and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: The switch-hitting Hicks is barely over the Mendoza Line this year and is batting just .167 with no home runs and six strikeouts in 30 at-bats against lefties in 2016. Both he and Romine are low-end dart throws in daily fantasy leagues tonight.

Yankees | Aaron Hicks leading off vs. Chicago

Fri, 13 May 2016 12:49:33 -0700

New York Yankees OF Aaron Hicks is leading off against Chicago White Sox SP Chris Sale Friday, May 13. OF Brett Gardner has dropped from first to seventh in the lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: The swap likely has more to do with Hicks being a switch hitter, and Gardner being a left-handed batter, as Sale has limited left-handed hitters to a .206 on-base percentage. Neither hitter is a strong fantasy option Friday, but Gardner and Hicks are trending in opposite directions. Gardner is mired in a 6-for-38 slump, whereas Hicks is 9-for-25 with six runs, two home runs, five RBI and a 1.019 OPS through his past eight games. Hicks could soon be a viable starter in all fantasy formats, and he should be owned in all deeper settings.

Yankees | Brett Gardner returns to lineup

Fri, 06 May 2016 13:56:43 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (elbow) is back in the starting lineup and is hitting second against Boston Red Sox SP Rick Porcello Friday, May 6.

Fantasy Tip: Given the fact that Gardner was dealing with an elbow ailment and his underwhelming numbers this year (.247/.371/.358), it seems only appropriate that you should fade him in daily leagues. It's not out of the question to bench Gardner elsewhere, too, until he shows better returns.

Yankees | Brett Gardner nursing elbow injury

Thu, 05 May 2016 13:26:08 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (elbow) said his elbow is still sore from being hit by a pitch during the game Wednesday, May 4, but he hopes to be available to pinch hit Thursday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner has just five hits through his last 33 at-bats (.152) over nine games, and manager Joe Girardi already said he expected to be without the outfielder for a few days. Make plans to be without Gardner in fantasy leagues for the immediate future, and it isn't out of the question to bench him until he shows signs of life at the dish in mixed leagues.

Yankees | Brett Gardner, Chase Headley sitting

Thu, 05 May 2016 12:52:52 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner and 3B Chase Headley are not in the starting lineup Thursday, May 5. OF Aaron Hicks is starting in left field and batting seventh, while 2B Ronald Torreyes is at the hot corner and is hitting ninth against Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman. 2B Starlin Castro moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner and Headley are really struggling right now and could see more bench time in the near future while the Yanks look to get going offensively. Downgrade them both in deep mixed and AL leagues. Hicks and Torreyes don't move the needle much for daily gamers, while Castro's value receives a slight boost with the move up the lineup.

Yankees | Brett Gardner out next few days?

Thu, 05 May 2016 12:25:43 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner may not play for the next couple of days, manager Joe Girardi hinted Wednesday, May 4. OF Ben Gamel, who was hitting .286 with a .709 OPS at Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, was called up Thursday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: It's unclear if Gardner is hurt of the Yankees are choosing to go in another direction with the struggling outfielder. Gardner has only five hits in his last 33 at-bats (.152) over nine games, and he's becoming increasingly hard to rely on in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Check back for updates on Gardner's situation.

Yankees | X-rays negative for Brett Gardner

Wed, 04 May 2016 21:45:05 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (elbow) was hit on the right elbow by a pitch Wednesday, May 4, against the Baltimore Orioles. X-rays were negative, and manager Joe Girardi said Gardner is hopeful he can swing a bat Thursday, May 5.

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners in leagues which allow daily moves might want to reserve him just in case, and DFS player should avoid him until he can officially return and prove his health in a full game without any lingering effects of the injury.

Yankees | Brett Gardner breaks Tampa Bay's heart

Sat, 23 Apr 2016 13:46:51 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner went 3-for-5, including a walk-off solo shot in the ninth inning, and finished with two RBI and a stolen base in a comeback win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Saturday, April 23.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner had his hand in the Yankees' final two runs, plating a run on an infield single in the seventh inning before ending the game by sending a pitch from Erasmo Ramirez over the fence in right. The 32-year-old is batting .375 with both of his homers at home this season, as opposed to .188 away from Yankee Stadium. Both marks figure to creep closer to the norm as the season progresses, meaning Gardner should remain in most lineups going forward.

Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury, Brett Gardner platooning?

Fri, 22 Apr 2016 16:10:47 -0700

New York Yankees OFs Jacoby Ellsbury and Brett Gardner, who both have hefty contracts, are essentially in a platoon with one of them sitting on a regular basis against left-handed pitchers to begin the year. The reason for this is the presence of OF Aaron Hicks, who has hit lefties well in his career. Hicks hit .307 against lefties in 2015 compared to .253 for Ellsbury and .276 for Gardner. However, Hicks has hit for 24 points less than Ellsbury and Gardner in his career against southpaws.

Fantasy Tip: Hicks not only has good numbers against lefties but has really impressed with his outfield defense so far. However, he's batting just .095 (2-for-21) and is a depth option in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. If this setup continues, both Gardner and Ellsbury's fantasy value takes a big hit.
