Yankees | Jacoby Ellsbury has sprained knee

Wed, 20 May 2015 10:24:28 -0700

New York Yankees OF Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) is dealing with a sprained right knee that has landed him on the disabled list. He hurt himself swinging in the fourth inning of the game Tuesday, May 19, and he went for an MRI exam. The Yankees could move OF Brett Gardner to center field, OF Chris Young could play center field. OF Slade Heathcott, who was recalled from the minors, is another option in center.

Fantasy Tip: There's no timetable for Ellsbury's ($5,900, 11.8% of cap) return, but given his history with nagging ailments, you should plan for the worst and a stay beyond the 15 days on the DL. Young ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) should now see regular playing time, boosting his value in deep mixed and AL-only leagues. Young is a fine weapon for FantasyScore lineups against southpaws. Heathcott is strictly an AL-only commodity in deep setups.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has at least on hit in all but one of his last 10 games. Gardner dealt with neck soreness last week, and he is likely being given a rare rest day as the Yankees take on a left-handed pitcher.

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (neck) is back in the starting lineup Thursday, May 7, and is hitting second in the batting order against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner ($4,500, 9.0% of cap) is having a fine season (.309-2-13) with eight stolen bases. Don't let the fact that Gardner is only 6-for-27 (.222) against Tillman in his career persuade you to think he's not a solid FantasyScore option tonight.

Yankees | Brett Gardner hopes to return Saturday

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 13:56:48 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (wrist) will take batting practice Friday, April 17, and he hopes to return to the lineup Saturday, April 18.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) hasn't played since Monday with a bruised wrist. It'd probably be a smart move to avoid Gardner for the rest of the weekend to let him recover from his wrist ailment. He'd also be facing a hot pitcher in Jake Odorizzi from the Tampa Bay Rays tomorrow, if he returns.

Yankees | Brett Gardner still out

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 13:33:13 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner (wrist) remains out of the starting lineup Friday, April 17. OF Chris Young is starting in left field in his place yet again and hitting eighth in the batting order against Tampa Bay Rays SP Nathan Karns.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has two home runs and a .318 average (7-for-22) to start the season. He's typically an all-or-nothing type of player with plenty of power, but he's a dice roll at FantasyScore, especially hitting at the bottom of the lineup.

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 11:57:00 -0700

New York Yankees OF Brett Gardner's (wrist) MRI exam confirmed a bone bruise on his right wrist Thursday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Gardner ($3,000, 6.6% of cap) could return to the team's lineup Friday evening after an off day Thursday. Check to make sure he's in there before running with him at FantasyScore, though. If he's starting, he'd be facing Tampa Bay Rays starter Nathan Karns, which is a good matchup.
