Baltimore Orioles SP Rick VandenHurk was roughed up for five earned runs, three hits and three walks without retiring a batter Wednesday, March 16, reports Roch Kubatko, of MASNSports.com. VandenHurk's spring ERA now sits at 13.50. "He didn't have a very good statistical outing," manager Buck Showalter said. "The first three base hits were ground balls that found holes. Try to keep that in mind. Certainly the walks weren't good and the deep counts."

Orioles | Competition for rotation heating up

The Baltimore Orioles have two spots in their rotation up for grabs with SPs Jeremy Guthrie, Brian Matusz and Brad Bergesen likely to fill out the top three spots, according to The Baltimore Sun's Matt Vensel. SP Jake Arrieta is the front-runner for the fourth spot. SPs Justin Duchscherer and Chris Tillman are the favorites for the last spot, but Ps Ryan Drese, Zach Britton and Rick VandenHurk are also in the mix.

Baltimore Orioles SP Rick VandenHurk has walked five batters in five innings this spring, but he isn't blaming his mechanics, reports Roch Kubatko, of MASNSports.com. "I feel good," VandenHurk said. "Yesterday, I felt a lot better than I did the first outing. I felt comfortable, which is the most important thing for me. I had four walks and two strikeouts, but it could have been the other way around."

SP Jake Arrieta and C Matt Wieters were renewed, along with IF's Robert Andino, Josh Bell, Pedro Florimon, Luis Lebron, Joe Mahoney and Brandon Snyder; OF's Matt Angle and Nolan Reimold; P's Brad Bergesen, Jason Berken, Zach Britton, Brandon Erbe, Troy Patton, Adrian Rosario, Alfredo Simon, Chorye Spoone, Chris Tillman, Rick VandenHurk and Pedro Viola; and C's Jake Fox and Craig Tatum.
