Gordon Wittenmyer, of the Chicago Sun-Times, reports the Chicago Cubs have released minor league P Matt Harrington. Harrington was once considered one of the top pitching prospects in the nation, having been drafted seventh overall by the Colorado Rockies in 2000.

The Chicago Tribune reports Chicago Cubs P Matt Harrington re-signed with the club, although the length of the contract and financial terms were not disclosed. He is expected to pitch at the Class-A level and will not get an invitation to major-league camp.
