Updating previous reports, Oakland Athletics 2B Mark Kiger entered Game 3 of the American League Championship Series against the Detroit Tigers in the eighth inning, becoming the first player in modern day baseball history to make his major league debut in the postseason. He touched the ball once, catching an inning-ending force, according to the Associated Press.

Josh Suchon, of the Oakland Tribune, reports if Oakland Athletics IF Mark Kiger makes it into a game in the American League Championship Series, he would be the first player in baseball history to make his Major-League debut in a playoff game.

USAToday.com reports the Oakland Athletics have purchased the contract of IF Mark Kiger from Double-A Midland.

Mychael Urban, of Athletics.MLB.com, reports the Oakland Athletics are expected to add IF Mark Kiger to the postseason roster. Kiger would take the roster spot of 2B Mark Ellis (finger), who broke his right index finger during the ALDS. Kiger was the Athletics' fifth-round pick in 2002, and hit .307 with Double-A Midland and .233 for Triple-A Sacramento this year.
