Tue, 11 Jun 2013 15:31:42 -0700 Boston Red Sox SPs Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster, along with P Alfredo Aceves, are candidates to start one end of a doubleheader scheduled for Tuesday, June 18, against the Tampa Bay Rays. Fantasy Tip: It sounds like De La Rosa isn't the ideal candidate, especially since Webster has already filled in twice this season -- once quite well, once disastrously -- and Aceves would also be on turn. Clay Buchholz's recent neck issue, along with the recent taxing of Boston's bullpen, has forced them to examine their options. It's feasible to think that P Franklin Morales, who was originally scheduled to start on Wednesday before he was needed for a couple of frames in last night's 14-inning game, is an option for the doubleheader, too.
Wed, 29 May 2013 14:59:00 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (collarbone) felt more tightness in the AC joint near his collarbone after throwing a bullpen Wednesday, May 29, and he's unsure if he can start Friday, May 31, against the New York Yankees. Now, he won't pitch until at least Sunday, June 2, as a precaution. As a result, SP Franklin Morales will jump into the rotation and start Thursday, May 30, against the Philadelphia Phillies. Buchholz will throw off a mound again Thursday to test himself. The team hasn't yet considered putting him on the disabled list, which could be backdated to May 23. Fantasy Tip: Morales should be grabbed in AL-only leagues for now, and deep mixed leaguers can consider him if Buchholz has to be disabled.
Tue, 28 May 2013 15:48:46 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz (collarbone) will return and make his start against the New York Yankees Friday, May 31, after being scratched Monday, May 27, with irritation in his collarbone. Buchholz was dealing with irritation in his right AC joint, and the move to sit him was purely precautionary. He played catch and long toss Monday and threw a bullpen Saturday, May 25. SP Franklin Morales, who was activated from the disabled list Tuesday, May 28, will work out of the bullpen. Fantasy Tip: Since the move was precautionary, you should have no reservations about starting Buchholz on Friday against the Yanks. Morales could become an option in AL-only and cavernous mixed leagues if Ryan Dempster continues to struggle in the rotation.
Tue, 28 May 2013 13:34:41 -0700 The Boston Red Sox activated SP Franklin Morales (pectoral) from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, May 28, and optioned P Alfredo Aceves to the minors in a corresponding move.
Sun, 26 May 2013 11:09:53 -0700 Updating a previous report, the Boston Red Sox are expected to activate P Franklin Morales (back) from the disabled list Tuesday, May 28. He will work out of the bullpen. Fantasy Tip: RP Alex Wilson or RP Alfredo Aceves are the two players who are most likely to be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket, in order to clear a spot on the 25-man roster for Morales.
Sat, 25 May 2013 17:12:25 -0700 The Boston Red Sox are expected to decide whether to bring SP Franklin Morales (back) back now and place him in the bullpen or allow him to make another rehab start and then bring him back as a starter. Manager John Farrell said that if Morales starts out in the bullpen, the team would stretch him out for around two weeks in case they want to add him back to the roster.
Thu, 23 May 2013 15:24:46 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Franklin Morales (back) went five innings and allowed one unearned run for Double-A Portland Thursday, May 23. He could be considered for a call-up sometime in the next week. C David Ross (concussion) went 1-for-3 and came away from his Portland rehab fine; he returned to Boston for further examination. Fantasy Tip: Upon his return, Morales could be a candidate to replace Felix Doubront in the rotation. AL-only players should prepare for this possible move.
Mon, 20 May 2013 11:24:13 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Franklin Morales (pectoral) allowed five runs in four innings with Triple-A Pawtucket Sunday, May 19, and he's expected to make at least one more rehab outing.
Thu, 16 May 2013 15:13:39 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Felix Doubront worked with pitching coach Juan Nieves to adjust the stride in his delivery in order to generate more velocity and improve the command of his pitches. Doubront has given up 12 runs in nine innings in his last two outings, and he's pitching to keep his spot in the rotation right now. SPs Allen Webster and Franklin Morales (pectoral) could take his spot if he continues to struggle. Fantasy Tip: Doubront must have a better outing tonight in order for the Red Sox to consider keeping him in the rotation over Morales or Webster. Morales is probably the better bet to take the rotation spot since the team is adamant on keeping him stretched out as a starter. Keep Morales in mind in your AL-only leagues.
Wed, 15 May 2013 16:10:52 -0700 Boston Red Sox SP Franklin Morales (pectoral) pitched three innings for Triple-A Pawtucket Monday, May 13, and he'll go four innings for Pawtucket Saturday, May 18. The team prefers to use him as starting rotation depth, so he'll continue to be stretched out as a starter, and he could replace SP Felix Doubront in the rotation if he continues to struggle. Fantasy Tip: Morales is an option strictly in AL-only leagues for now because he isn't guaranteed a rotation spot just yet. If you're desperate, add him now and stash him.
