Atlanta Braves 3B Juan Francisco may see as many as 300 at-bats in the 2012 season, according to manager Fredi Gonzalez. The Braves are being careful with 3B Chipper Jones (knee), who sat out two games this week. In those games Francisco was 4-for-10 with a homer and four RBIs.

Atlanta Braves SP Tim Hudson (back) made a third rehab start at Triple-A Gwinnett Wednesday, April 18, tossing five innings and allowing one unearned run on two hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Hudson will throw closer to 100 pitches in a rehab start Tuesday, April 24, with the plan for him to be activated for a series against Pittsburgh later this month.

Atlanta Braves 3B Chipper Jones (knee) was given a day off Thursday, April 19. He's played in six of the Braves' 13 games after missing the first four recovering from left knee surgery, and dealt with swelling in the knee late last week. "If it acts up, we'll give him another day," manager Fredi Gonzalez said.

Atlanta Braves 3B Chipper Jones said he will likely miss the next several games after straining his right quad muscle Monday, July 25, his first game back from the disabled list after arthroscopic knee surgery on his right knee.

Jones was told the injury was a strained muscle that went into spasm. Following Monday's contest, there was a six-inch area of his thigh that was raised, which Jones described as "pretty sore" after undergoing treatment Tuesday. Jones will continue to get stimulation treatments on the injured spot.

Manager Fredi Gonzalez said the chances of Jones pinch hitting Tuesday were "50-50." Though his knee is sound, Jones said he still needs to regain strength in his quad muscle, which had atrophied following the knee surgery.

Updating previous items, Atlanta Braves 3B Chipper Jones (knee), who is eligible to return from the disabled list Sunday, July 24, will not make any rehab appearances this weekend. Instead, he will wait and work out with the Braves when the club returns to Atlanta on Monday, July 25. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez expects that Jones will make some rehab starts later next week, although he did not specify where.

OF Jason Heyward batted second instead of sixth Sunday, April 17, triggering the rumors. "I'm not saying he's going to be there permanently," Gonzalez said. "I'm not saying that he's not."
