The Seattle Mariners signed 18 players to one-year contracts Monday, Feb. 27, including C Jesus Montero and Justin Smoak. The others signed were Ps Blake Beavan, Steve Delabar, Lucas Luetge, Yoervis Medina, Hector Noesi, Mauricio Robles and Chance Ruffin, Cs John Jaso and Adam Moore, INFs Alex Liddi, Francisco Martinez, Kyle Seager and Carlos Triunfel and OFs Johermyn Chavez, Chih-Hsien Chiang and Carlos Peguero. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

The Seattle Times' Larry Stone reports Seattle Mariners SS Carlos Triunfel is playing winter ball in the offseason and has dedicated himself to improving this offseason. "He's on (a) strict diet, and he's taken ownership of his career at 19," director of minor league operations Pedro Grifol said. "He's hired his own nutritionist, he's working his butt off and learning three infield positions instead of just playing shortstop."

Baseball America's John Manuel reports Seattle Mariners SS Carlos Triunfel (leg) has been removed from the Arizona Fall League. Triunfel's left leg, which he broke this season, is still bothering him. He could still play in the AFL if he is physically ready in two weeks, according to a Mariners official.

Updating an immediate report, the Seattle Times' Geoff Baker reports the Seattle Mariners declined a three-way trade between the Boston Red Sox and the San Diego Padres. The deal would have sent Mariners SP Felix Hernandez to the Red Sox and Padres 1B Adrian Gonzalez, Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz and a couple of other prospects. The Padres would have received Mariners SP Brandon Morrow, RP Phillippe Aumont, SS Carlos Triunfel and a couple of Red Sox prospects.
