The Seattle Times' Larry Stone reports Seattle Mariners SS Carlos Triunfel is playing winter ball in the offseason and has dedicated himself to improving this offseason. "He's on (a) strict diet, and he's taken ownership of his career at 19," director of minor league operations Pedro Grifol said. "He's hired his own nutritionist, he's working his butt off and learning three infield positions instead of just playing shortstop."

Baseball America's John Manuel reports Seattle Mariners SS Carlos Triunfel (leg) has been removed from the Arizona Fall League. Triunfel's left leg, which he broke this season, is still bothering him. He could still play in the AFL if he is physically ready in two weeks, according to a Mariners official.

Updating an immediate report, the Seattle Times' Geoff Baker reports the Seattle Mariners declined a three-way trade between the Boston Red Sox and the San Diego Padres. The deal would have sent Mariners SP Felix Hernandez to the Red Sox and Padres 1B Adrian Gonzalez, Red Sox SP Clay Buchholz and a couple of other prospects. The Padres would have received Mariners SP Brandon Morrow, RP Phillippe Aumont, SS Carlos Triunfel and a couple of Red Sox prospects.

Chad Finn, of The Boston Globe, reports the Boston Red Sox apparently made a serious run for Seattle Mariners SP Felix Hernandez, according to The Seattle Times' Geoff Baker. The Red Sox offered a list of SP Clay Buchholz, P Daniel Bard, Cleveland Indians RP Justin Masterson, P Nick Hagadone, SP Michael Bowden, P Felix Doubront, OF Josh Reddick and SS Yamaico Navarro. The Red Sox discussed a three-way trade between the Mariners and San Diego Padres that would have sent 1B Adrian Gonzalez to the Mariners, along with SP Clay Buchholz and a couple of prospects. The Padres would have received SP Brandon Morrow, RP Phillippe Aumont and SS Carlos Triunfel.
