Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson solid in loss

Tue, 24 May 2016 22:06:57 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson fell to 4-3 after losing to the Detroit Tigers in his start Tuesday, May 24. He was solid, though, working seven efficient innings in which he allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk. He also struck out seven batters.

Fantasy Tip: Hellickson has quietly gone on a run as of late, as this registered as his third straight quality start. In the process, the former Tampa Bay Ray brought his ERA down to a more respectable 3.97. While he doesn't garner most of the attention on the Philadelphia pitching staff, he could be worth streaming in the weeks ahead. He's a fine source for strikeouts, too, with 57 K's in 56 2/3 total innings this season.

Tigers | James McCann not starting Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 13:52:13 -0700

Detroit Tigers C James McCann will not start Tuesday, May 24, against the Philadelphia Phillies. C Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting and batting seventh against Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson.

Fantasy Tip: McCann's numbers have been less than perfect at the plate (.194 at home, .149 during May), and he carries little fantasy value even as a starting catcher. Saltalamacchia has become part of a platoon, but he too has slumped horribly. Right now, the Tigers catching situation is terrible and its fantasy value is negligible.

Tigers | Justin Upton not starting Tuesday

Tue, 24 May 2016 13:43:43 -0700

Detroit Tigers OF Justin Upton (quadriceps) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 24, against the Philadelphia Phillies. OF Steven Moya is playing left field and will hit sixth against Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson. Upton may also miss Wednesday, May 25, as well, but that is not confirmed yet.

Fantasy Tip: Upton may be back in the lineup later this week, but even so his numbers have been less than stellar this season. He has only 37 hits in 43 games and a .223 batting average, but 66 strikeouts in 166 at-bats have made Upton a bad fantasy risk at the plate. Moya has little fantasy value at this point.

Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson gets fourth win

Wed, 18 May 2016 15:13:31 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson improved to 4-2 after winning his start Wednesday, May 18, against the Miami Marlins. He registered six solid innings, surrendering only two runs on five hits and one walk. He also struck out four.

Fantasy Tip: The Phillies have probably been the biggest surprise in all of baseball and Hellickson is a reason why their starting pitching has helped fuel their strong start. Not only does he own a respectable 3.99 ERA to go along with his winning record, he's also averaging more than a strikeout per inning for the first time in his career. Owners in deep mixed leagues should start considering his services if he's out there on the wire.

Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson punches out nine

Fri, 13 May 2016 18:59:04 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson allowed two unearned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out nine in a win over the Cincinnati Reds Friday, May 13.

Fantasy Tip: Hellickson has been more bad than good in what has been an inconsistent year, but with 46 strikeouts in 43 2/3 innings, he could have some value in NL-only leagues.

Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson impressive Wednesday

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 19:10:56 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson (2-1) allowed two hits and three walks over seven scoreless innings in a victory over the Washington Nationals Wednesday, April 27, with eight strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: This marked the first time in five starts this year where Hellickson was able to pitch into the seventh inning. See if he can put together a few more decent starts in a row before considering him as a viable pitching option in daily fantasy games.

Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson knocked around

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 23:55:19 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson allowed four earned runs, 10 hits and a walk with six strikeouts in just 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Wednesday, April 20, against the New York Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Hellboy has been dinged for nine earned runs and 17 hits over his past two starts, spanning just 7 1/3 innings. He isn't walking many, but he is just very hittable, and that's not very good considering half of his starts come at the bandbox at Citizens Bank Park in Philly.

Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson cannot be trusted

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 23:20:59 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson is scheduled to pitch Wednesday, April 20, against the New York Mets. He is 2-1 with a 7.04 ERA in his career against the Mets.

Fantasy Tip: Hellickson is not a recommended fantasy play or DFS option Wednesday, especially considering the Mets have won 20 of their past 26 visits to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

Mets | Yoenis Cespedes goes deep

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 14:30:15 -0700

New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes went 2-for-4 and cracked his first home run of the season off Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson on Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes was off to a bit of a slow start with no RBI and only two hits - none for extra bases - and seven strikeouts through four games, so his owners have to feel relieved with Sunday's effort. Leave the Cuban slugger in fantasy lineups as he should have a chance to improve his numbers soon; Jose Fernandez and Corey Kluber are the only recognized aces the Mets are scheduled to face over the next few series.

Phillies | Jeremy Hellickson earns first victory

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 14:17:05 -0700

Philadelphia Phillies SP Jeremy Hellickson allowed two runs on three hits while striking out five against the New York Mets on Sunday, April 10.

Fantasy Tip: Hellickson cruised through the first five frames before running into trouble in the sixth. The 29-year-old is showing signs of recapturing the form that made him such a coveted fantasy property with the Tampa Bay Rays earlier this decade. Hellickson is going to be hard-pressed to reach double-digit wins with the Phillies this season, but it appears he might be able to help owners in ERA and WHIP.
