San Diego Padres OF Carlos Quentin (knee) and RP Micah Owings (forearm) will report to extended spring training Monday, May 21.

The San Diego Padres recalled P Alex Hinshaw from Triple-A Tucson Tuesday, May 8, and optioned OF Blake Tekotte to Tucson in a corresponding move. Hinshaw had a 3.72 ERA with 18 strikeouts and 10 walks in 14 relief appearances with Tucson. The team also moved P Micah Owings (forearm) to the 60-day disabled list.

The San Diego Padres placed RP Micah Owings (forearm) on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, April 26, due to a strained right forearm. The team purchased the contract of RP Dale Thayer from Triple-A Tucson, and moved SP Dustin Moseley (shoulder) from the 15-day to 60-day disabled list to clear a spot for Thayer on the 40-man roster.

San Diego Padres INF Andrew Parrino, OF Jeremy Hermida and SP Micah Owings earned the final spots on the team's opening day roster. SS Everth Cabrera will go to Triple-A Tucson and play every day. Owings will pitch out of the bullpen.

San Diego Padres manager Bud Black said both SPs Anthony Bass and Micah Owings could make the team, with the loser of the rotation spot pitching out of the bullpen. Both pitchers have minor league options remaining, too.

San Diego Padres SPs Dustin Moseley, Anthony Bass and Micah Owings are fighting for two rotation spots this spring, with the loser likely filling a long relief role in the bullpen. Bass, however, is likely to begin at Triple-A Tucson if he doesn't win a spot in the rotation. Moseley has given up three runs and seven hits while walking none and striking out six in nine innings. Bass has allowed two earned runs and six hits while walking one and striking out six in seven innings. Owings has surrendered nine runs (seven earned) and nine hits while walking three in 5 2/3 frames.
