PewterReport.com reports former Tampa Bay Buccaneers OT Derrick Deese has filed an $862,500 grievance against the Buccaneers. The team released him following a disagreement regarding the severity of his foot injury during training camp.

The St. Petersburg Times reports former Tampa Bay Buccaneers OT Derrick Deese is causing the Buccaneers a salary cap hit, despite his earlier release. Deese filed a grievance with the union, claiming he was injured at the time of his release, but the Buccaneers insist he had been cleared to play. Because of the grievance, the Bucs may have to absorb half the $1.725 million base salary he was expected to earn in 2005 on their salary cap until the matter is resolved.

Katherine Smith, of the Tampa Tribune, reports Tampa Bay Buccaneers OLT Derrick Deese (foot) will have his status determined Saturday, Sept. 3. The options include releasing him or possibly placing him on Injured Reserve. Scheduled to make $2.137 million, cutting him would count about $412,500 on this year's salary cap while $1.725 million would come off the balance sheet. On the flip side, the team could end up keeping him and hoping his injured foot recovers enough for him to play again. Head coach Jon Gruden said Deese does not feel like he's ready to play health wise.
