Vikings | Adrian Peterson won't be limited

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 14:25:24 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson will still receive a heavy workload this season, according to head coach Mike Zimmer. Zimmer said Peterson will be given as much as he can take.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has already said he wants to reach 2,500 rushing yards. While that's not likely, he'll still return to the featured back he was before last year. He should comfortably be taken as a top running back in fantasy drafts.

Vikings | AP to see goal-line touches?

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 19:38:57 -0700

The Minnesota Vikings plan to give RB Adrian Peterson a heavy workload heading into the season. "As much as he can take, and as much as he can handle in all the things that we're doing," head coach Mike Zimmer said Monday, July 27. "Obviously, we're going to have to spell him at times like you do a lot of guys. But we get down on the goal line, and we're probably not pulling him out, you know? He's our best player, and we're going to continue to use him."

Fantasy Tip: The Vikings apparently will be riding Peterson hard, and that's great news for fantasy owners. The part about the goal-line touches is especially important, as Peterson appears to be in line for those rushes, too, after Matt Asiata was so good in the role last season. Asiata and Jerick McKinnon are still good players for depth on a fantasy roster if you nab Peterson in the first round.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson thinks he can play a while

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 12:27:31 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he believes he can play in the NFL at a high level until he's 36 or 37 years old.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson's feud with the Vikings seems to be long gone. He's itching and ready to play football again. As long as Peterson stays healthy and avoids any more off-field issues, he should end up as a high-end RB1 again. Feel free to take him if you have an early first-round pick.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson has lofty goal

Mon, 27 Jul 2015 11:23:25 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants to rush for 2,500 yards this season.

Fantasy Tip: That's all well and good, but 2,500 total yards will be hard for any running back to attain, much less 2,500 rushing yards alone. This goal does prove Peterson's determination, however. He's set on playing football. A determined Adrian Peterson is a dangerous Adrian Peterson. He's a candidate for the No. 1 running back this year.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson happy to be a Viking

Sat, 25 Jul 2015 12:13:34 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he is happy to be in Minnesota or he wouldn't have reworked his contract.

Fantasy Tip: Most people would be happy where there are if they had $20 million in guaranteed money. Money and off-field issues aside, Peterson is one of the most consistent running backs in real football and fantasy football. He's worth a first-round pick.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson to catch more passes?

Mon, 20 Jul 2015 11:17:16 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could end up catching between 40 and 50 passes in 2015, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Ben Goessling.

Fantasy Tip: Catching more than 43 balls would be a new career high for Peterson, who hasn't seen 40+ catches since the 2012 season. If Peterson does catch 40-50 passes, he'll have a good chance to finish in the top three among running backs in PPR scoring.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson to see time on third down

Thu, 16 Jul 2015 10:30:16 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson believes he will be used more often on third downs this season.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson will receive a majority of the carries this season and could be more valuable if he becomes more involved in the passing game. Peterson should be an option in the first round of most drafts this season and will be every-week starter for owners.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson has nose for end zone

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 13:11:20 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has scored double-digit touchdowns in every season of his eight-year NFL career. Last season is the exception as he only played in one game due to allegation of child abuse. When Peterson has played at least 12 games, he has scored at least 10 touchdowns. From 2007 to 2013, Peterson averaged 12.29 touchdowns per season.

Fantasy Tip: The bottom line is that when Peterson is healthy, he's a top-tier fantasy running back. And when he plays all 16 games, he averages 1,746.66 yards and 13.3 touchdowns. As of now, Peterson is healthy and has put his tumultuous 2014 year behind him. Draft him as a top-five running back.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson still confident

Mon, 29 Jun 2015 11:49:51 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson still believes he's the best running back in the NFL. This was in response to Peterson being named the 62nd best player on the NFL Network's top 100 players list.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson played in just one game last season, but averaged 1,445.0 yards and 12.2 touchdowns in the seven seasons before last year. He has played just three full seasons in his career, but has been in the double digits in touchdowns every year, including in 2011 when he only played in 12 games. As long as Peterson is healthy and off-field issues don't intervene again, he's basically a lock for a RB1 status.

Sun, 28 Jun 2015 10:29:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has been working out with RB Jerick McKinnon and WR Mike Wallace since offseason workouts ended.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson appears to be ready to play for the Vikings this season and is preparing for training camp. Peterson should be considered a first-round draft pick and may be one of the safer options available.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson eyes record

Sat, 27 Jun 2015 18:49:40 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he believes he is still the best running back in the NFL, and he is aiming for a record-breaking 2,200-yard season in 2015, according to his wife.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson heads into the season with a big chip on his shoulder, and he is one of the safest bets to deliver RB1 numbers as the workhorse back for a Minnesota offense that has improved since he was last on the field.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson has big goals

Mon, 15 Jun 2015 11:14:49 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson eventually wants to break former Dallas Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith's all-time rushing record. Peterson also believes he can be the best running back in the league when he's 38 years old.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson certainly seems to have changed his mindset since returning to Vikings. The talent and confidence has always been there, and those have usually translated pretty well onto the field. If Peterson can stay on the field and keep his off-field issues behind him, he should be primed for another RB1 season.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson hoping to help QB

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 20:38:30 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he hopes his presence will make life easier for QB Teddy Bridgewater in 2015.

Fantasy Tip: Bridgewater finished with the best Total QBR among rookie starters last year, and the return of Peterson and addition of Mike Wallace should only help his growth. Bridgewater should be a solid mid-range QB2 in 2015, and he could venture into QB1 territory against certain matchups.

Vikings | Fewer carries for Adrian Peterson?

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 18:57:11 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson won't be asked to shoulder the entire offensive load in 2015. "No question that the workload will be a lot more balanced than in the past because the organization has done an outstanding job of acquiring talent and other explosive pieces," running backs coach Kirby Wilson said Thursday, June 11. "And just as the natural progression as an older back ages, the workload decreases anyway."

Fantasy Tip: While Peterson probably won't top 300 carries like he often has in the past, Kirby also mentioned that Peterson's snap count will be limited more so than his carries. He should still handle a big chunk of the workload. He is one of the safest bets to deliver RB1 value in 2015.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson not expected in preseason

Wed, 10 Jun 2015 16:08:29 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson isn't expected to see any playing time during the preseason, according to head coach Mike Zimmer Wednesday, June 10. "We're talking in June, so you can't hold me to it, but he's carried the ball a lot (in his eight-year career) and he's going to continue to carry the ball a lot. He'll get plenty of looks and reps in practice," said Zimmer.

Fantasy Tip: This news shouldn't have much affect on Peterson's 2015 fantasy value, as he hasn't had a preseason carry since 2011. The potential No. 1 fantasy selection will be even more ready for the start of the regular season.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson impressing teammates

Thu, 04 Jun 2015 16:30:48 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has impressed his teammates since arriving for organized team activities Tuesday, June 2. CB Captain Munnerlyn was among those who were impressed, "He's in unbelievable shape, like he never lost a step. And he's out to prove a point," said Munnerlyn. RB Jerick McKinnon, who is likely to be dropped down the depth chart due to Peterson's arrival, also had high praises for his teammate, "It's an opportunity to learn from the best running back in the game," McKinnon said.

Fantasy Tip: Despite all of the off-field noise surrounding Peterson in the past year, he remains one of the safest running backs in fantasy football heading into the 2015 season, and he should once again be a heavy favorite for the No. 1 overall selection on draft day.

Vikings | HC welcomes Adrian Peterson

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 18:48:47 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson was welcomed back by head coach Mike Zimmer Tuesday, June 2. "We welcome him with open arms, unequivocally," Zimmer said.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is unhappy with his contract, and wants guaranteed money, but it appears he will be with Minnesota in Week 1. He has fresh legs after missing a huge chunk of 2014, and he will be a top-notch fantasy option again in 2015 as long as he can remain healthy. Remember, last time he was out for a long stretch he came back with a vengeance.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said he's learned from his mistakes and is ready to move forward following an extended absence. Peterson said he's focused on what's in front him and wanted to get back to the team.

Fantasy Tip: It sounds like Peterson is ready to get down to business after his stalemate with the organization. Assuming he's fully healthy and maintains full health, he's a candidate for the No. 1 fantasy running back heading into the 2015 season.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson to report Tuesday

Tue, 02 Jun 2015 05:20:01 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson plans to report to organized team activities Tuesday, June 2. "I decided to come back just to get around my teammates and the coaching staff," Peterson said. "There's never been any love lost with those guys. Basically it's time for me to come in and test the waters and re-familiarize myself with our offense and the direction they're trying to go in."

Fantasy Tip: Peterson rates as a midrange RB1 if he doesn't lose too many touches to Jerick McKinnon in the offense.

Vikings | Mike Zimmer, Adrian Peterson speak

Sun, 31 May 2015 23:30:08 -0700

Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer and RB Adrian Peterson have apparently cleared the air of their differences. Although Peterson still has reservations about returning to the Vikings, his relationship with Zimmer is strong.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson should be a solid RB1 selection even though he has been sidelined for one entire season. It will be even better if Peterson can smooth things over so this isn't a distraction entering 2015.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson upset with contract

Thu, 28 May 2015 15:59:14 -0700

Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson wants the Vikings to honor his seven-year contract worth $96 million that goes through 2017. Peterson took to Twitter to vent that it takes both sides to fulfill a contract. Peterson desires guaranteed money into the 2016 season and beyond. There is currently no guaranteed money left in his current contract.

Fantasy Tip: There's plenty of time for Peterson and the Vikings to settle this dispute before training camp and the regular season begin. The good news is that Peterson has also said he doesn't want to be traded; he simply wants more security with his contract. Assuming health and happiness, Peterson is a perennial candidate for the No. 1 fantasy running back.

Vikings | Mike Zimmer gives Adrian Peterson edict

Thu, 28 May 2015 05:37:38 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson was given a public ultimatum by Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer Wednesday, May 27, saying he has to either play for the Vikings or not play at all. Peterson said Wednesday on Twitter he did not want to be traded and was looking for financial security by not attending organized team activities. Peterson has three years remaining on his current contract and is due $46 million.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson really has no leverage in this situation, so returning to the team sooner than later would behoove his outlook. As this saga continues to wear on, his conditioning will become a mild concern. Draft him in the top five of all fantasy formats.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson wants guaranteed money

Wed, 27 May 2015 19:15:53 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson would like guaranteed money in 2016 from the Vikings. Peterson is not participating in organized team activities but is not looking for a trade.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson could skip all of the offseason workouts but probably will be ready to play at the start of the regular season. It is still not known who Peterson will play for in Week 1, but he should be a first-round option in most drafts.

Cowboys | Adrian Peterson not in Dallas' plans

Tue, 26 May 2015 05:29:07 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, the Dallas Cowboys have moved on from the idea of trading for Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson, despite persistent rumors, according to The Dallas Morning News' Brandon George. Don't entirely rule out anything when it comes to Dallas owner and general manager Jerry Jones, George says, but the belief is that the organization is largely content with their current crop of running backs.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson trade rumors probably will continue to float about for the duration of his contract -- three more years -- or until something actually happens. Until it does, stay the course and trust him as a No. 1 fantasy back even if he is disgruntled with the Vikings.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson still wants trade

Mon, 25 May 2015 11:33:18 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson still wants to be traded, according to a source. Peterson intends to skip all organized team activities, which would cause him to lose $250,000 in workout bonuses.

Fantasy Tip: This could be one step leading to a Peterson holdout. If he's willing to forfeit his workout bonus and miss significant time with teammates, he must really want a change of scenery. However, the Vikings have already said they aren't trading Peterson. This seems to be an immovable object meeting an unstoppable force. Stay tuned.

Sun, 24 May 2015 18:16:25 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has informed head coach Mike Zimmer that he will not attend the optional practices that begin Tuesday, May 26, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is trying to force a trade, but a deal doesn't appear to be coming. While he may not like his current situation, it would be a major surprise if he went as far as to sit out games during the regular season. Happy or not, Peterson is a RB1 option in 2015.

Vikings | Mike Zimmer talks Adrian Peterson

Fri, 22 May 2015 06:42:15 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson remains in pursuit of being traded or receiving a new contract and remains away from the organization during voluntary workouts. Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer told ESPN Radio he has a target date in mind of when he thinks Peterson will return to the team, but Zimmer did not give the specific date.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson remains among the elite fantasy football options in Round 1, and an upset Peterson could be a very productive one. Zimmer is likely referring to training camp, since Peterson will be fined if he doesn't show, but this situation will feel tenuous until AD steps foot onto the field in Week 1 wearing a Vikings jersey.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson's agent seeks new deal

Fri, 01 May 2015 08:34:30 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson may be changing course in his pursuit of a trade as his agent, Ben Dogra, said he'd like the team to sign Peterson to an extension. "One of the things that I appreciate with the Vikings is their resolve to say 'we're not trading him,'" Dogra told USA TODAY Sports. "That tells me they value him not only as a football player, but what he's done for the organization. "I actually, as an agent, not only appreciate it - I accept it. But actions speak louder than words. If that's going to happen, and you want to keep him, then show him a commitment to make him retire as a Viking. And I haven't had that solution." Peterson has three years and $46 million left on his contract, but none of it is guaranteed.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is still a high-end RB1. He'll likely be a first-round pick wherever he plays next season.

Vikings | No change to Adrian Peterson's status

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 11:06:15 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is still expected to remain with the Vikings even though former NFL WR Cris Carter indicated Peterson could be traded in the near future.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson will continue to be mentioned in trade talks until the start of the season, but it looks like nothing is imminent. Peterson should be a first round pick in most leagues next season no matter which uniform he is wearing.

Tue, 28 Apr 2015 05:50:45 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is 80% likely to remain with the Vikings, in the opinion of ESPN insider Chris Mortensen.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson, even if he remains in Minnesota, should be the team's main back yet again, and he'll likely be in consideration for the top overall fantasy pick in 2015 after sitting out almost the entire 2014 season. He's rested and determined to return as one of the elite rushers in the NFL.

Sat, 25 Apr 2015 00:01:57 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is not being pursued by the Atlanta Falcons, according to Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff.

Fantasy Tip: It could be a smoke screen, but Dimitroff said he is watching players in this year's draft and not looking at potential free agents. As with other teams, it is worth seeing if Peterson ends up anywhere or stays in Minnesota. He's still one of the elite running backs.

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 15:22:31 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could be of interest to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports.

Fantasy Tip: It's sounding more plausibly that the Vikings will simply end up holding on to Peterson, though trade talks could heat up leading up to the NFL Draft. As long as Peterson is on the field, he's in the running to be the top fantasy running back for the 2015 season.

Vikings | MIN wants to keep Adrian Peterson

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 11:13:34 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is not expected to be traded by the Vikings unless the team is overwhelmed by an offer from another team, according to a source. The Vikings are confident that time will help their relationship with Peterson. A source said a recent report that stated the Vikings are looking for a first-round pick and a starting cornerback in a trade for Peterson is not accurate, which may suggest the Vikings would be looking for even more in a trade.

Fantasy Tip: There will still be rumors about a possible Peterson trade during the offseason, but it looks like he will start the season with the Vikings at this point. Peterson likely will be a first-round pick in most fantasy drafts next season no matter where he plays.

Jaguars | JAX not interested in Adrian Peterson

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 21:53:19 -0700

"No, not really," Bradley said Tuesday, April 21. "Not between (general manager Dave Caldwell). A while ago, but it was just conversation, not any direction that we would go."

Fantasy Tip: Fantasy owners are likely hoping Peterson won't go to Jacksonville, either, as they're not exactly the most dynamic and flashy offense.

Vikings | Six teams in mix for Adrian Peterson

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 10:44:16 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson remains a candidate to be traded, and a source close to the situation believes that if he isn't traded before or during the 2015 NFL Draft next week, that he will remain in Minnesota. The Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, San Diego Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in the mix for Peterson, and the source didn't include the Oakland Raiders, who had been mentioned in previous reports as a possible candidate. Peterson is under contract for three years and $43.25 million, but none of the money is guaranteed. The Vikes may be hard-pressed to receive a late first-round pick for Peterson, because of his age (30).

Fantasy Tip: A lot can still go down for Peterson and the Vikings before or during the draft, so stay tuned. The reality is that Peterson will likely be in consideration for the top overall fantasy selection this year, regardless of which team he lands with, or even if he remains in Minnesota.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson not attending workouts

Mon, 20 Apr 2015 10:37:21 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is not in attendance for the start of the team's offseason workout program Monday, April 20, according to league sources. However, Peterson hasn't attended this stage of the team's offseason before. Minnesota wasn't expecting Peterson to show, according to a source. His $250,000 workout bonus is tied to his participation for organized team activities (OTAs) and the mandatory minicamp in June.

Fantasy Tip: There still remains the chance that Peterson is traded by the Vikings before the 2015 NFL Draft next week. Stay tuned. Regardless, though, Peterson should be in consideration for the No. 1 overall fantasy pick this fall.

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson has a $250,000 offseason bonus in his contract for participating in all mini-camps, all organized team activities and reporting to training camp on time. The first day that has implications on that bonus is May 26 when OTAs begin.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is trying to maneuver his way out of town, but he really needs to participate in as much offseason stuff as possible after missing all but one game last season. Peterson is a mid-to-low RB1 in fantasy.

Raiders | Interest in Adrian Peterson

Sat, 18 Apr 2015 00:31:51 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is drawing interest from the Oakland Raiders.

Fantasy Tip: The Raiders have about $12 million more in cap space than the Dallas Cowboys, another team expressing interest in Peterson, have at this point. A year away from the game may make Peterson a little rusty around the edges. Still, there's no doubt Peterson would be the star in Oakland. He's still RB1 material if everything works out.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson may not work out

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 09:28:13 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson said earlier this week that he's not sure if he'll participate in the team's offseason program. Minnesota is set to start their offseason workouts Monday, April 20, with a mandatory minicamp in June. Peterson can now participate in all team activities after being reinstated from the commissioner's exempt list Friday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: The Peterson situation may really get interesting now that he's been reinstated into the league. It remains to be seen if the two sides can work out their differences, or if the Vikes will trade him away. Either way, Peterson will play in 2015 and will likely be considered for the top overall fantasy selection, depending on where he's playing.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson unlikely for suspension

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 10:26:06 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson is "highly unlikely" to face more suspension from the league when he's finally off the Commissioner's Exempt List, according to a source. Peterson's next concern is clearing the way for his full return to the field this fall. "Peterson wants to have a completely clean slate by the draft," NFL Network analyst Ian Rapoport said.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson should be in consideration for the top overall fantasy pick in 2015 regardless of which team he is playing for. A trade is still a possibility, though, with the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals as the most likely destinations.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson meeting with NFL Tuesday

Tue, 07 Apr 2015 10:21:23 -0700

Updating previous reports, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson will meet with NFL officials at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7. The meeting will detail his compliance with terms from the league and his Texas plea deal.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is pushing hard to be traded or cut from the Vikings. He'll most likely be in a situation where he receives the majority of the work at running back. He's a mid-to-low RB1 in that scenario.

Browns | Adrian Peterson an option for Browns?

Sat, 04 Apr 2015 11:35:43 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could be a target for the Cleveland Browns, in the opinion of ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler. The Browns have $30.96 million in salary cap space, so they could afford to make a trade for Peterson.

Fantasy Tip: Of course, the Vikings can choose not to trade Peterson at all, even if he wants out of Minnesota. It's still hard to gauge Peterson's value at this point as we still don't know if he'll stay with the Vikings or sign with the Dallas Cowboys or Cleveland or somewhere else. Stay tuned for any updates on Peterson, especially as the NFL Draft nears.
