Vikings | Adrian Peterson focused on 2016 return

Mon, 26 Sep 2016 09:25:51 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) is focused solely on playing again this season, according to a report from Pro Football Talk.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson has to sit out until Week 11, but it would be mistake to rule him out for the season given his track record. Owners in deeper leagues or those with IR spots are advised to hold as long as possible in part because AP is one of the few true feature backs around, but Minnesota's offensive line has been so bad so far that he should be considered no more than a RB2 even if he does return. Jerick McKinnon will continue to serve as the lead back during his Peterson's absence.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson hopes for rapid recovery

Sat, 24 Sep 2016 15:50:28 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) has told people in and around the organization that he believes he can be ready to play when he is eligible to be activated from the Reserve/Injured list in eight weeks, according to sources. It is believed that it will take at least one month before doctors will be able to tell whether an expedited return for Peterson is possible.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson will miss at least half of the season because of the injury, but owners should monitor the situation to see if he will be able to play in the last few games. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will share work while Peterson is out. McKinnon can be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in most leagues, while Asiata can be a flex option in deeper leagues.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson officially placed on IR

Fri, 23 Sep 2016 12:17:57 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) was officially placed on injured reserve Friday, September 23.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is expected to miss the rest of the regular season. In his absence, Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon will control the Minnesota backfield, with the latter having a considerably higher ceiling. Asiata, though, has value, too, as he could vulture numerous touchdowns from up close like he did in 2014 when Peterson missed all but one game.

Thu, 22 Sep 2016 07:14:32 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) had successful surgery to repair his torn lateral meniscus in his knee Thursday, Sept. 22. There were no additional injuries in or surrounding the knee joint.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is expected to be out until at least December, but he could come back quicker, or he could be done for the fantasy season. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata are expected to share the work, and they're flex considerations against the Carolina Panthers.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson didn't tear LCL?

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 14:28:01 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Vikings officials say that RB Adrian Peterson (knee) does not have a torn lateral collateral ligament, but other sources have said that he does have a torn ligament.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is still expected to miss several months because of his torn meniscus, but he would need more time to recover if he has a torn lateral collateral ligament. Jerick McKinnon is expected to receive a majority of the work at running back with Peterson out and can be at least a flex option in fantasy leagues.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson has LCL tear

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 13:58:10 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) has a torn lateral collateral ligament in addition to his torn meniscus, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is not expected to return until at least December and probably will miss the rest of the season with multiple torn ligaments in his knee. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will split snaps for the next few months. McKinnon can be a low-end No. 2 running back or a flex option in all leagues, while Asiata can be a flex option in deeper leagues.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson does not practice

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 13:12:01 -0700

Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Peterson is expected to miss several months because of knee surgery, but owners may want to keep a hold of Peterson since he could return before the end of the season. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will share carries while Peterson is sidelined and both could be flex options for owners.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson injury may end season

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 09:10:27 -0700

Updating an ongoing story, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) has what is known as a "bucket handle tear" of his meniscus, which usually requires a three-to-four-month recovery and up to six months.

Fantasy Tip: The more news that comes out, the more fantasy owners cringe after the believed optimism once ligament damage was ruled out. Anything you get from Peterson in fantasy the rest of the way should be seen as a bonus. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will share the work, but McKinnon could wind up being the featured back with Asiata on third downs. Both are flex options while Peterson is out.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson has lateral tear

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 09:07:02 -0700

Updating earlier reports, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) will have surgery Thursday, Sept. 22, to repair a tear of his lateral meniscus in his right knee.

Fantasy Tip: December was reported as a potential return date, but with him having the surgery to repair the cartilage instead of trimming it, his return date is up in the air. Peterson has healed quickly before, but he is 31 now. Anything you get from him in fantasy, sadly, would be a bonus right now. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata will share the work, but McKinnon could wind up being the featured back with Asiata on third downs. Both are flex options while Peterson is out.

Vikings | Adrian Peterson out until December?

Wed, 21 Sep 2016 08:52:05 -0700

Updating earlier reports, Minnesota Vikings RB Adrian Peterson (knee) could be out until December, at the earliest, with a return for a potential playoff run possible.

Fantasy Tip: We'll know more once he has the operation, and Peterson has been a quick healer in the past. However, he's 31, and it's too early to peg a target date. Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata figure to share the work while he's out. Asiata has been playing third downs, and they could opt to use McKinnon in the lead role. Both are merely flex options against the Carolina Panthers this week.
