Miami Marlins 1B Gaby Sanchez could be recalled sooner than anticipated because of the injury to OF Austin Kearns (hamstring). The Marlins could use another right-handed batter to face left-handed pitchers since they are tied for last in the National League with a .221 batting average against lefties.

Miami Marlins INF Greg Dobbs started at first base Sunday, April 8, against the Cincinnati Reds, with C Brett Hayes starting behind the plate. Manager Ozzie Guillen said Dobbs' appearance in the lineup had nothing to do with the slow start of 1B Gaby Sanchez, who has collected one hit in his first 11 at-bats (.091). "I have to give him some at bats," Guillen said of Dobbs. "I cannot leave a guy on the bench for a couple of weeks and expect him to get a hit from the bench."

The Miami Marlins intend to renew contracts of all players that aren't eligible for arbitration, which may force the players' union to file a grievance contending that the team did not operate in good faith, sources say. Some players included are 1B Gaby Sanchez, OF Mike Stanton and OF Logan Morrison.
