New York Mets manager Terry Collins said both OFs Juan Lagares and Eric Young Jr. will see time in the lineup this season, but Collins didn't elaborate. Both Lagares and Young could play at the same time, but it would mean OF Chris Young would be on the bench.
Fantasy Tip: Collins isn't revealing his plans here. The bottom line is this: Whoever hits the most to start the season will likely receive the majority of playing time. Young has more upside on the offensive side, and he'll offer you more stolen-base potential, as well.

New York Mets OF Juan Lagares may have the first crack at playing time in center field over OF Eric Young Jr. to start the season. "I think everybody would probably agree he's our best (defensive) outfielder, he's our best center fielder," general manager Sandy Alderson said about Lagares. "But he's going to have to hit a little bit, too. So if he were to start in center field on opening day, we'd have to see over a period of time -- how long, how short I don't know -- that he can carry the offensive side of the game as well. And if that's not the case, then typically a guy like that would be better off playing every day somewhere else. But that's premature."
Fantasy Tip: That sounds pretty promising for Lagares opening as the starting center fielder over young, but he won't have a very long leash if he doesn't get off to a nice start with the stick. Young is still a decent long-term target, but probably only in NL-only leagues, for now.

New York Mets OF Eric Young Jr. (side) might be held out of spring games through the weekend due to an injured side muscle. "I asked about Saturday. They actually want to see him on a field a couple of days before we put him in a game. So Sunday would be the earliest, probably. And, if not, Monday or Tuesday," manager Terry Collins said.

New York Mets OF Chris B. Young made it clear that he prefers to play center field. If OF Juan Lagares is the starter in center, it would likely push Young to left field. If OF Eric Young Jr. isn't the team's leadoff hitter, SS Ruben Tejada and Young are alternatives.

New York Mets OF Eric Young Jr. said he would love nothing more than to hit leadoff for the team this season, but he knows he needs to raise his on-base percentage in order to do so. Young was ranked dead last in 2013 among National League hitters with at least 325 plate appearances in the leadoff spot in terms of OBP (.318). Young's at-bats will likely come at the expense of OF Juan Lagares.
