Brewers | Several CF options in Milwaukee

Mon, 15 Feb 2016 21:15:33 -0800

Milwaukee Brewers OFs Keon Broxton, Rymer Liriano, Kirk Nieuwenhuis and Eric Young Jr. are each options for the starting center field job heading into spring training.

Fantasy Tip: It's a big race to watch, and it could end up a platoon situation, too. Nieuwenhuis and Young have the most starting experience, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have a leg up at this juncture.

Brewers | Eric Young signs with Milwaukee

Tue, 29 Dec 2015 13:37:36 -0800

Free-agent OF Eric Young Jr. (Mets) has signed a minor-league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers. Young can make $1 million if he is brought to the parent club before spring training concludes or the regular season gets underway.

Fantasy Tip: Don't go out of your way to draft Young late in NL or mixed leagues, but keep an eye on how he does in spring training. If he can regain the 40-50 steal capability he had a few years ago, Young's fantasy value could rise.

Mets | Eric Young Jr. may earn callup

Mon, 24 Aug 2015 01:45:22 -0700

New York Mets OF Eric Young Jr., who was recently acquired from the Atlanta Braves, may be called up when rosters expand on Sept. 1.

Fantasy Tip: Young steals bases, which is something the Mets haven't done a lot of as of late. Watch how much playing time Young earns if he is called up, as Young could be a low-cost FantasyScore flier who earns a few points on speed alone.

Braves | Cameron Maybin sitting Tuesday

Tue, 12 May 2015 11:15:53 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 12. OF Eric Young Jr. is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Cincinnati Reds SP Anthony DeSclafani.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) hasn't started a game since May 1, and he's hitting just .164 (11-for-67) with only five RBI and three stolen bases in limited action. He's quickly fallen out of favor in the outfield with the emergence of Kelly Johnson. At the bottom of Atlanta's order, Young shouldn't excite folks at FantasyScore.

Braves | Cameron Maybin starting Tuesday

Tue, 05 May 2015 14:31:03 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Philadelphia Phillies SP Chad Billingsley Tuesday, May 5. OF Eric Young Jr. starts on the bench yet again.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) will continue to be a frustrating play at the bottom of the lineup for Atlanta. The matchup is nice going against Billingsley in his season debut, but Maybin remains an unattractive FantasyScore play.

Braves | Cameron Maybin starting in CF

Mon, 04 May 2015 13:48:00 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is starting in center field and hitting ninth in the batting order against Philadelphia Phillies SP Aaron Harang Monday, May 4. OF Eric Young Jr. is sitting the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is hitting just .222 (10-for-45), but he does have four home runs and nine RBI on the season and has been more productive in center field than Young this year. Maybin is an inconsistent performer at the plate and won't be that attractive to FantasyScore users unless he's near the top of the lineup.

Braves | Eric Young starting in CF

Thu, 30 Apr 2015 12:03:44 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. is starting in center field and hitting eighth in the batting order against Cincinnati Reds SP Mike Leake Thursday, April 30. OF Cameron Maybin is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) is batting only .169 (10-for-59) with three stolen bases so far this year, and hitting at the bottom of the batting order really doesn't do much for FantasyScore users. Until he gets going, Young isn't an attractive play for daily gamers.

Braves | Eric Young batting eighth

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 13:43:28 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. is batting eighth and playing center field against the Washington Nationals Wednesday, April 29.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has started five of the last seven games in center field over Cameron Maybin ($2,400, 4.8% of cap), as Young appears to be earning the majority of starts. Young has just five hits through his last 37 plate appearances, though, and he shouldn't be counted on in FantasyScore contests until he shows some life at the dish.
