Braves | Eric Young leading off Wednesday

Wed, 22 Apr 2015 13:13:05 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. is starting in center field and hitting leadoff against New York Mets SP Dillon Gee Wednesday, April 22. OF Cameron Maybin is sitting on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is off to a slow start at the plate, hitting only .176 (6-for-34) with three RBI and two stolen bases. Hitting atop of the lineup gives him slightly more appeal for those FantasyScore owners willing to trust him against Gee tonight.

Braves | Eric Young off to slow start

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 14:29:40 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. is hitting just .182 (6-for-33) to start the season.

Fantasy Tip: Young ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) hasn't had the start to 2015 that he'd like, and the acquisition of Cameron Maybin has hurt his overall fantasy value with infrequent playing time. When Young is in there and hitting atop the lineup, he's a cheap and under-the-radar source of stolen bases at FantasyScore.

Braves | Cameron Maybin hitting Tuesday

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 13:44:59 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Cameron Maybin is in the lineup Tuesday, April 21, and OF Eric Young Jr. is on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) should not be touched as he is 2-for-17 (.118) with one home run in his last seven days of action. Look for other low-cost options with similar value.

Braves | Eric Young hitting atop the order

Fri, 17 Apr 2015 12:48:49 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. is batting leadoff and playing left field against the Toronto Blue Jays Friday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: Consider Young ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) a potential upside target in FantasyScore contests Friday. Batting first increases his likely plate appearances, too. Still, Young doesn't handle the bat well, and he is more of a flier than anything.

Braves | Eric Young sitting vs. Marlins

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 08:30:56 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP Dan Haren Wednesday, April 15. OF Jonny Gomes is starting in left field and hitting sixth in the batting order.

Fantasy Tip: Gomes ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) isn't very attractive to FantasyScore users today after he hit a paltry .165 with two of his six home runs against right-handers in 2014. He also has just three hits in 14 career at-bats against Haren.

Braves | Eric Young out again

Fri, 10 Apr 2015 14:02:02 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. is not in the starting lineup for the second straight day against New York Mets SP Jon Niese Friday, April 10. OF Cameron Maybin is starting in center field and hitting leadoff.

Fantasy Tip: Young is in danger of losing valuable playing time to Maybin ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) in center field, especially when the team faces a left-hander like tonight. Maybin is a midrange option at FantasyScore Friday night, and he'll help you save money elsewhere.

Braves | Eric Young not playing Wednesday

Wed, 08 Apr 2015 14:15:08 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. is not in the starting lineup against Miami Marlins SP tom Koehler Wednesday, April 8. OF Cameron Maybin is starting in center field and batting ninth, while OF Jonny Gomes is starting in left and hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Maybin ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) and Young are likely to split playing in center, but Young ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) should still see valuable PT. Gomes ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) and Maybin are both cheap outfield options, with Maybin being more intriguing because of his dirt-cheap cost against a weaker starting pitcher.

Braves | Melvin Upton hopes to have boot removed

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 14:00:19 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Melvin Upton Jr. (foot) is expected to remove the protective walking boot from his left foot Friday, April 3. He's missed most of spring training after being diagnosed with sesamoiditis, and he's unlikely to be ready to return before May. OF Eric Young Jr. has had a strong spring and is expected to start the season as the team's everyday center fielder. Upton has been able to hit in the cages with his boot.

Fantasy Tip: Upton has essentially become an afterthought in most standard 12-team mixed leagues because of his injury and his last two poor seasons in Atlanta. Young Jr. is a popular sleeper option in the later rounds for his stolen base prowess, and he could continue to see consistent playing time in the team's outfield when Upton eventually returns. Young ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) should be a cheap option for stolen bases at FantasyScore, too.

Braves | Eric Young favorite to start in Braves OF

Wed, 11 Mar 2015 17:17:04 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. was confirmed as the favorite of Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez to start in center field while OF Melvin Upton Jr. (foot) is out. Gonzalez cautioned, "We've still got a lot more games to be played and a lot more work to be done."

Fantasy Tip: Young emerged as the likely frontrunner to start in Upton's absence, but Gonzalez's confirmation enhances Young's draft appeal. The speedy outfielder stole 30 bases in part-time work last year and 46 bases in a full-time role in 2013. His ability to steal bases in bunches is the only reason to own him, but speed-needy drafters should consider using a late-round pick on Young.

Braves | Eric Young launches two-run shot

Mon, 09 Mar 2015 15:26:55 -0700

Atlanta Braves OF Eric Young Jr. hit a two-run home run and stole a base Monday, March 9, during the team's 2-1 Grapefruit League win over the Washington Nationals.

Fantasy Tip: Young appears to be the front-runner for the opening day center field job, and if he continues his strong play, he'll lap the competition soon. Speed is his main attribute, and at 29, he needs to elevate his entire game to stick in the league. He had 30 stolen bases in just 316 plate appearances last season, so consider Young a viable late-round flier in all formats, and especially if speed is a category of need. Additionally, with Melvin Gordon Jr.'s poor play over the past two seasons, there is a chance Young could remain a fixture in the Braves lineup, even when Gordon Jr. returns from injury.
