Mon, 20 May 2013 14:45:33 -0700 Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer (neck) will play in two extended spring games this week and is expected to be ready to return from the disabled list to face the San Francisco Giants Friday, May 24. Fantasy Tip: Those that were taking advantage of increased playing time from Eric Young Jr. in deep mixed leagues will have to look elsewhere for stolen base contributions when Cuddyer returns.
Mon, 13 May 2013 17:09:32 -0700 Colorado Rockies OF Michael Cuddyer's (neck) MRI exam showed an inflamed cervical disc in his neck, but there was no other damage found in his neck. He received an epidural injection to relieve pain in his neck, and he's expected to resume light baseball activities this week. OF Charlie Blackmon will be in the lineup for the second straight night Monday, May 13. The team is optimistic that Cuddyer can return after a short rehab assignment. He's eligible to come off the disabled list May 23. Fantasy Tip: Blackmon is worth a look in deep mixed formats in the short term while he's playing, but Eric Young Jr. has better skills (mainly speed) to warrant a pickup in those leagues.

Fantasy Tip: Charlie Blackmon was called up Sunday, and he received the start. Eric Young Jr. should see increased playing time as well, and the two could form some sort of platoon with Cuddyer out. Young, if he plays often enough, could be a big boost for mixed league owners looking for some speed.

He's dealing with a disc problem and is listed as day-to-day for now. "This is something I've dealt with since 2004," Cuddyer said. "When this happens, it locks me up. I can't turn my neck, and it makes it very difficult to play." Fantasy Tip: He says it's not too serious now, but given Cuddyer's age, this is an injury could easily linger and put him on the disabled list. In deep mixed leagues and NL-only formats, keep Eric Young Jr. handy, especially if you are hurting for stolen bases.
Sat, 09 Mar 2013 23:14:05 -0800 Colorado Rockies OF Eric Young Jr. went 3-for-3 Saturday, March 9, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, showing why manager Walt Weiss remains intrigued at using him in the leadoff spot. Young beat out a slow hopper to shortstop, lined a single to left field and executed a perfect bunt. "I got a lot of confidence from last season. It showed I could do it. It's about getting on base and creating havoc," Young Jr. said.

"I just want to try to get 500-600 at-bats - whatever way they can get me in there," he said. Manager Walt Weiss is looking for ways to make Young the team's super-utility player. Young is playing third base for the first time in his career this spring.

"He's primarily an infielder," Weiss said. "But I see him - especially for his career, and for us - if he could be a super-utility type guy, where he can play some second and play some third. We're not going to just throw him in there. He's going to run around the infield, take some ground balls, see what that looks like and how he feels. Maybe that's an option for us, to get what he does in the lineup."
