Cleveland Indians RP Vinnie Pestano recorded a strikeout in his 21st consecutive relief appearance Saturday, May 19, against the Miami Marlins. That ties a franchise record for relievers set by RP Paul Shuey from Aug. 20, 1999 to April 10, 2000.

Cleveland Indians RP Vinnie Pestano has posted at least one strikeout in each of his 16 appearances this season. It is the longest streak by an Indians reliever to start the season since 1918. Pestano did not work in the game Friday, May 11, against the Boston Red Sox.

The Cleveland Indians signed 2B Jason Kipnis, C Lou Marson, OF Shelley Duncan, Ps Vinnie Pestano, Frank Herrmann, Zach McAllister, Nick Hagadone and Scott Barnes, OF Ezequiel Carrera and INFs Lonnie Chisenhall, Russ Canzler and Juan Diaz to one-year deals for the 2012 season Friday, March 9. Indians | Chris Perez to miss four to six weeks

Cleveland Indians CL Chris Perez is expected to miss four to six weeks because of a strained left side muscle that was injured when he threw for the first time in spring training. Trainer Lonnie Soloff said there's still a possibility that Perez could be available for the season opener against the Toronto Blue Jays April 5. If Perez is not ready to pitch by then, RP Vinnie Pestano would probably serve as the team's closer.

Fantasy Tip: Perez was already entering this season as one of the shakiest fantasy baseball closing options. Add this new injury with his lack of strikeouts and fly-ball tendencies, and you have a very uninspiring fireman. Pestano's stock rises some more; he proved he has the skills to succeed in a late-inning role last season, and he'll have the chance to prove it again early on. Perez could theoretically get his job back even if Pestano is lights out in his absence, but how long can he really hold off Pestano if his shaky skills continue?
