Ravens | Torrey Smith hopes against signing a veteran WR

Sat, 01 Jun 2013 10:10:40 -0700

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome has expressed interest in adding a veteran receiver to the roster after evaluating the current crop this offseason. Ravens WR Torrey Smith wants to prove Newsome wrong, suggesting the current corps knows the offense and can get the job done.

Fantasy Tip: Smith is more confident about their ability than we are. He does not seem to have the makeup of a WR1 for an NFL franchise. Tandon Doss has upside, if he can beat out Jacoby Jones, whose hands have failed him many a times throughout his career. Smith is a second fantasy receiver, while Jones and Doss are No. 5 options.

Ravens | Rolando McClain retiring from NFL

Wed, 15 May 2013 10:11:15 -0700

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome announced Ravens LB Rolando McClain, 23, has informed the team he is retiring. Baltimore has placed McClain on the Reserve/Retired list.

Fantasy Tip: This is a curious decision, especially for such a young player, but McClain has been embroiled in off-the-field issues and may need time away from football to straighten out his life. It would not be surprising to see him make a comeback attempt down the line. He projected as a reserve for the Ravens, so this move shouldn't affect their fantasy value as a low-end No. 1 defensive team.

Thu, 04 Apr 2013 12:36:25 -0700

Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said recently cut LB Brendon Ayanbadejo could be back, and the team has not closed the door on him completely. "As a team, we place a high value on special teams, and Brendon was one of our top performers in that area for the last five seasons," said Newsome in a statement. "He was one of the best special teamers in the league, but he was also a valued member of our defense, especially in our sub (substitute) packages. He became a leader for us, and the door may not be closed to bring him back to help us again."

"I think he has a decision to make as to whether he wants to come back and play here."

I trust Ozzie, it's always been done. They asked me about this with Ray Rice. They asked me about this with Haloti Ngata and on down the line and we've always signed them. So Joe's going to be here. Baltimore Ravens general manager Ozzie Newsome said Friday, Jan. 25, that neither he nor owner Steve Bisciotti pressured head coach John Harbaugh to fire former offensive coordinator Cam Cameron during the season. "No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, that wouldn't be fair to John," Newsome said. "John has to stand before his coaching staff and his players. If at any point do they ever think that he's overly influenced by Steve or I, then he loses his staff and his players. It has to be him."
