Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers LB Alex Lincoln, a seventh-round draft choice last year, has told the team he intends to retire due to a rare condition that caused pain and numbness in his pelvic region and right arm.

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports San Francisco 49ers LB Alex Lincoln, who spent the 2001 season on injured reserve after being stricken with an ailment that caused weakness in his neck and extremities, appears retirement bound. He returned for minicamp last month but found that the symptoms still persisted and it appears he'll now be forced into retirement.

49ers.com reports San Francisco 49ers LB Alex Lincoln, drafted in 2001 but forced to sit out the entire year with a neck injury, has been sent home by the team again this year. "He came out and started to train with the guys, but he started feeling sore again,” coach Steve Mariucci said. “He didn’t pass his physical to be at camp and he is just not ready for this.” The coach said, for now, Lincoln remains on the roster.

The Contra Costa Times reports the San Francisco 49ers have released DT Cedric Killings and undrafted rookie free agent G Milford Stephenson. They signed P Jason Baker and as reported previously, DL Larry Fitzpatrick, released by the Saints. Baker was recently released by the Eagles. The team also placed rookie LB Alex Lincoln on the reserve/non-football injury list.

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports the San Francisco 49ers have signed rookie LB Alex Lincoln, a seventh-round selection, to a four-year deal. Lincoln won't play this year though due to problems with fibers in his back pressing against nerves near his spinal column. He'll spend the year on the team's non-football injury list.

Cam Inman reports for the Contra Costa Times the San Francisco 49ers have decided not to sign seventh-round draft pick LB Alex Lincoln. They sent him home to Alabama becuase he won't play this season because of a spine injury. An MRI exam this week revealed that fibers have torn loose around discs in his back, said general manager Terry Donahue. The GM hopes Lincoln will "redshirt" this season and resume training with the club in January.

Matt Maiocci reports for the Press Democrat the San Francisco 49ers announced the official signing of three draft picks yesterday. They signed sixth-round picks WR Cedrick Wilson and CB Rashad Holman, and seventh-rounder TE Eric Johnson. A league source said Wilson received $75,000 to sign, while Holman and Johnson were awarded $65,000 and $30,000, respectively. All the players received three-year contracts with base salaries of $209,000, $289,000 and $389,000. The team is awaiting more medical info before attempting to sign seventh-round pick, LB Alex Lincoln.

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers LB Alex Lincoln, a seventh-round draft choice, and second year QB Giovanni Carmazzi (shoulder) may both start training camp on the PUP list. Lincoln said he's feeling a lot better and has been taking medication for an arthritic condition in his pelvis that has apparently caused back pain and numbness in his right arm. He has been working out on a limited basis. Carmazzi's injured shoulder flared up during his time in NFL Europe and is awaiting the test results from a specialist in Los Angeles.

Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers rookie LB Alex Lincoln has continued to undergo series of tests to determine what has caused severe pain in his neck and back as well as numbness in his right hand. They suspect it is an arthritic condition. MRI results have shown his neck and back are healthy.

According to the San Francisco 49ers official website, tests done on rookie LB Alex Lincoln have come back negative. As reported, Lincoln is suffering from an unknown condition that has caused some numbness in his hand and leg. GM Terry Donahue stated he'll see another specialist next week.

He hasn't participated in mini-camps the past two weeks and isn't currently with the team.
