St. Louis Cardinals 2B Skip Schumaker will handle the majority of playing time in center field with OF Jon Jay (shoulder) on the disabled list. OF Shane Robinson could see some starts there, too.

Updating previous reports, the St. Louis Cardinals have activated 1B Lance Berkman (calf) from the 15-day disabled list. He is in the starting lineup against the Atlanta Braves Sunday, May 13, batting fifth. In a corresponding move, OF Shane Robinson has been optioned to Triple-A Memphis.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Carlos Beltran doubled, walked, scored two runs and stole two bases Wednesday, April 25. He has five stolen bases this year, his most since the 2009 season. OF Shane Robinson had three singles, matching a career high, and stole a bag.

The St. Louis Cardinals have yet to decide to place OF Jon Jay (shoulder) on the disabled list, but he is not in the lineup Friday, April 20, with OF Shane Robinson starting in center field. Jay will be re-evaluated Friday.

St. Louis Cardinals OF Jon Jay (shoulder), who was wearing a sling after the game Thursday, April 19, underwent X-rays on his right shoulder, which showed no structural damage. He's being listed as day-to-day, but he'll be re-evaluated Friday, April 20. OF Adron Chambers would likely be recalled if Jay is forced to the disabled list. OFs Skip Schumaker, Erik Komatsu or Shane Robinson can also play center field to keep OF Carlos Beltran in right field.

The St. Louis Cardinals optioned P Victor Marte, C Bryan Anderson and INF Eugenio Velez to Triple-A Memphis Friday, March 30, in order to finalize their opening day 25-man roster. OFs Shane Robinson and Erik Komatsu earned bench spots. OF Allen Craig (knee), 2B Skip Schumaker (oblique) and SP Chris Carpenter (shoulder) will begin on the disabled list.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed 3B David Freese and 23 others to one-year deals for the 2012 season Wednesday, Feb. 29. The others included Bryan Anderson, Mitchell Boggs, Matt Carpenter, Adron Chambers, Maikel Cleto, Allen Craig, Tony Cruz, Daniel Descalso, Brandon Dickson, Chuck Fick, Sam Freeman, Tyler Greene, Mark Hamilton, Jon Jay, Erik Komatsu, Peter Kozma, Lance Lynn, Adam Ottavino, Adam Reifer, Shane Robinson, Marc Rzepczynski, Fernando Salas and Eduardo Sanchez. Financial terms were not disclosed.
