Rays | Alex Cobb plays catch

Mon, 30 Mar 2015 07:14:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm) played catch Monday, March 30, and it went well.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb ($7,500, 15.0% of your cap) will be a daily consideration on FantasyScore once he's cleared to pitch.

Rays | Alex Cobb cleared to throw

Sat, 28 Mar 2015 07:25:22 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm) has been cleared to start throwing again and will play catch from 60 to 75 feet Saturday, March 28.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb ($7,500, 15.0% of cap) is not expected to be ready for the start of the regular season but is not believed to be dealing with a long-term injury. Cobb should be a solid option on FantasyScore when he returns because of his strikeout potential.

Rays | Alex Cobb could throw this weekend

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 11:21:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm) had a good report from Dr. Koco Eaton Monday, March 23, and he could "possibly" throw over the weekend, according to manager Kevin Cash.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb is expected to miss the first couple weeks of the 2015 regular season. His fantasy stock as a No. 2 starter shouldn't really chance much unless he suffers a significant setback. He'll also be a nice source of strikeouts for FantasyScore users once he's back in late April.

Rays | Alex Cobb to visit doc Tuesday

Mon, 23 Mar 2015 22:18:20 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm) said Monday, March 23, that he felt good, as he continues to recover from right forearm tendinitis. Cobb is scheduled to visit a team orthopedist Tuesday, March 24.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb is expected to miss a couple of weeks to start the season, but FantasyScore owners might be able to depend on him in late April to early May if he keeps progressing. He will be a nice source of strikeouts for daily players.

Rays | More on Alex Cobb

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 11:15:18 -0700

Updating previous reports, Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm), who will miss opening day with right forearm tendonitis, will rest for four to seven days and then be re-evaluated, according to manager Kevin Cash. The team is hoping that Cobb will only miss a couple weeks of the season, and Cobb is expecting to return to pitch in the first month of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to keep an eye on how Cobb progresses through the end of camp. Before the injury, he was just outside of consideration for a fantasy ace as a cheaper alternative to the high-upside strikeouts guys. He'll likely fall down the draft board a bit now, but he should be considered a solid No. 2 if he misses just a handful of starts in 2015.

Rays | Alex Cobb hopes to pitch in April

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 10:18:00 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm), who will miss the season opener with forearm tendonitis, said he is expecting to return in April. However, it's unknown when he'll begin a throwing program.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb's price will drop a tad in fantasy baseball drafts. But depending on how many starts he's projected to miss, if he returns in April, he could be even more of a value pick in 2015. Before his injury, he was just outside the fantasy ace discussion as a cheaper alternative. If his price drops significantly after his injury, look to scoop him up quickly.

Rays | Alex Cobb will miss opener

Wed, 18 Mar 2015 06:24:30 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm) had an MRI reveal tendonitis in his right forearm, and he is not expected to make his Opening Day start.

Fantasy Tip: The setback doesn't hurt Cobb's fantasy stock too much. He's still worth a low-end SP2 slot. The rebuilding team and lack of run support could stunt his win totals, though.

Rays | Alex Cobb not concerned

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 14:35:04 -0700

Updating a previous report, Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm) said he's not concerned after shutting down his outing short with "a little bit" of forearm tightness Tuesday, March 17. He said he had some tightness leading up to the start, but his forearm loosened up while he was pitching. Cobb looked fine in his outing and even struck three hitters out in three innings. He is unsure if he'll make his next spring start, and he'll see how he feels Wednesday, March 18.

Fantasy Tip: There is reason to be concerned about Cobb as a fantasy owner, but until we know more, he should continue to be considered slightly cheaper than the big strikeout artists in fantasy drafts.

Rays | Alex Cobb leaves game early

Tue, 17 Mar 2015 11:29:27 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (forearm) left his outing Tuesday, March 17, with right forearm tightness.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb doesn't think his injury is serious, but forearm tightness is often a scary injury, as it can lead to problems with elbow ligaments. This is definitely something to keep an eye on in the next few days. Check back here for updates on his status. Cobb currently is going early in drafts as a fantasy ace once the top names come off the board.

Rays | Alex Cobb to start opening day

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 10:56:51 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb will start the team's opening day game in 2015, according to manager Kevin Cash. Cobb went 10-9 with a 2.87 ERA in 27 starts in 2014 and is the team's ace after SP David Price was traded to the Detroit Tigers. SPs Chris Archer and Drew Smyly will follow Cobb in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb has really come into his own as the Rays' ace starter. He's a notch below the elite fantasy ace names out there, but he could put up just as good numbers in a full season, making him a bargain in the middle rounds of standard 12-team leagues.
