Rays | Alex Cobb throws bullpen session

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 19:12:58 -0700

For the second time this week, Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (elbow) threw 20 fastballs from halfway up a bullpen mound Friday, April 15. Afterward, he claimed that this session went better than the previous one.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb should remain stashed in AL-only and cavernous mixed fantasy leagues because there is a chance he could resume pitching before the end of the regular season.

Rays | Alex Cobb pleased with his progress

Sun, 21 Feb 2016 06:29:47 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (elbow) is pleased with his progress in his recovering from Tommy John surgery. He is currently playing long toss at 120 feet and hopes to throw off a mound by mid-March with his return goal still late July.

Fantasy Tip: Depending on your league's settings, Cobb is either a late-round grab to stash or player to watch. When healthy he is a No. 2 arm with solid strikeout upside, but he hasn't pitched since 2014 and inconsistency often accompanies Tommy John returnees early in their comebacks. All said, if you can stash Cobb in an IR spot after grabbing him late in your draft, it is advised.

Rays | Alex Cobb could return in July

Sun, 14 Feb 2016 09:47:12 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb (elbow) is eyeing a late-July return from Tommy John surgery.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb missed most of the 2015 season recovering from the surgery but should be viewed as a high-end SP2 when healthy, so he may be worth taking a late-round flier on in AL-only and deep mixed leagues.

Rays | Alex Cobb agrees to one-year deal

Thu, 14 Jan 2016 11:32:05 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb avoided arbitration by signing a one-year, $4 million deal Thursday, Jan. 14.

Rays | TB may deal another starting pitcher

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 14:03:52 -0800

The Tampa Bay Rays may deal another starting pitcher before spring training, with SP Drew Smyly and SP Matt Moore among the names discussed. SP Alex Cobb (elbow) will be back in August and several young arms will be ready during the season.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously, the draft stock of Smyly or Moore could go up if either one leaves Tampa Bay, so check and see if either pitcher is traded. Both players are still young and their best years are ahead. Moore could be a sleeper, as he will be nearly two years removed from Tommy John surgery at the start of the 2016 campaign.
