Jaguars | Wimbush injured

Sat, 03 Jun 2006 07:31:34 -0700

Bart Hubbuch, of the Florida Times-Union, reports Jacksonville Jaguars FB Derrick Wimbush (arm) said he would need surgery to repair a broken bone in his left arm. Wimbush, a backup fullback who doubles as a kickoff returner, would not specify the exact injury but said the imminent surgery could cause him to miss training camp and the preseason. "I'm going to give it 100 percent to be back in time (for training camp), but we'll see," said Wimbush. He said the injury occurred Thursday, June 1, near the end of a voluntary team workout. If Wimbush is slow to come back, the Jaguars have options at returner in RB LaBrandon Toefield, WR Troy Edwards, WR Chad Owens and second-round draft pick RB Maurice Drew.

Steelers | Ward willing to offer help if asked

Wed, 10 May 2006 21:46:23 -0700

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers WR Santonio Holmes made a good first impression on WR Hines Ward when they met last week. Ward would like to help assimilate him into the team's offense, but learned from two past wide receivers about offering such help. Ward said, "If he wants to be helped and asks, I'm more than willing. But for me to go out of the way to try to help somebody, I'm not going to do it. I did that before, and it didn't work." Ward said he was rebuffed by free agent WR Troy Edwards (Lions) and WR Plaxico Burress, currently with the New York Giants, when they were with the team. Ward claimed both first-round draft picks did not respect him because he was drafted in the third-round. He said he took WR Antwaan Randle El, now with the Washington Redskins, under his wing because he asked for help.
