Cubs | Jason Heyward to play CF

Mon, 14 Dec 2015 09:14:07 -0800

Chicago Cubs OF Jason Heyward will play center field next year unless the Cubs move OF Jorge Soler in a trade. Heyward is slated to bat near the top of the lineup with 2B Ben Zobrist.

Fantasy Tip: Heyward is a real complete player in real life and for his fantasy owners, and joining the Cubbies should make him even more appealing in fantasy drafts. Heyward's contact, on-base and speed skills will play well in the Chicago lineup and will also enhance the value of those hitting around him -- like Kris Bryant, Zobrist and Anthony Rizzo.

Chicago Cubs 2B Ben Zobrist received a full no-trade clause for the first three years of his four-year, $56 million deal. Cubs | Jason Heyward still on CHC radar?

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 21:04:16 -0800

The Chicago Cubs have been in steady contact with the agent for free-agent OF Jason Heyward (Cardinals), according to sources. However, it's uncertain if the team will continue to pursue him following the signing of 2B-OF Ben Zobrist (Royals).

Fantasy Tip: Heyward posted a career-high .293 batting average with 13 homers, 60 RBIs and also a career-best 23 stolen bases with 79 runs and a .359 OBP. He would obviously be a welcome addition to the Chicago lineup.

Cubs | Ben Zobrist chooses Cubbies

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 16:43:36 -0800

Free-agent 2B Ben Zobrist (Royals) has agreed to a four-year, $56 million deal with the Chicago Cubs Tuesday, Dec. 8, pending a physical, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Even though Zobrist is coming from the World Champion Kansas City Royals, he's joining an offense with perhaps even more thump. That will be good for his fantasy value, mainly his run-scoring opportunities as a contact-minded hitter. Zobrist's positional versatility is also a huge selling point as he provides excellent depth for your fantasy squad in shallow mixed leagues.

MLB | Ben Zobrist deciding between NYM and CHC

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 15:53:12 -0800

Free-agent 2B Ben Zobrist (Royals) will reportedly choose between the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs as his next destination, with both teams having comparable offers on the table. In turn, the Washington Nationals appear to have fallen out of the running.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist's fantasy potential might be a bit higher with the Cubs, as they will have the more complete lineup next year compared to their 2015 NLCS opponent, which would present the 34-year-old veteran with more run-scoring opportunities if they were to place him near the top of the batting order. Either way, Zobrist is still capable of succeeding in both cities.

Cubs | Ben Zobrist a lower priority for CHC

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 13:55:38 -0800

Free-agent 2B Ben Zobrist (Royals) is not a high priority for the Chicago Cubs, although the team still has interest in him.

Fantasy Tip: With the club possibly dangling Javier Baez in trade, the team may be waiting to see what develops there before going any further. Monitor this situation.

MLB | Ben Zobrist has offer on table

Tue, 08 Dec 2015 10:46:14 -0800

Free-agent 2B Ben Zobrist (Royals) has a four-year, $80 million offer on the table at the winter meetings. The New York Mets remain the favorites to sign him.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist has minimal power but appeals to fantasy owners mainly because of his positional eligibility and contact abilities at the plate. He's useful for middle infield depth in deeper leagues and can be an asset in runs scored, as well.

MLB | Ben Zobrist prefers second base

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 16:40:02 -0800

Free-agent 2B Ben Zobrist (Royals) appears to have a preference in playing second base, which would give a leg up to the New York Mets and Washington Nationals over the San Francisco Giants in vying for his services.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist has gained a reputation throughout his career of being a super utility man, but at this stage in his career, it looks like he just wants to settle down at second base. He still has something to offer with his bat as well, despite not being the run-producer he once was with the Rays. Zobrist actually is coming off a year in which he registered his highest batting average (.284) since 2009. He'll be a fine source for runs, too, if his new team places him somewhere at the top of the batting order.

Mets | Ben Zobrist wants everyday position

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 12:42:25 -0800

Free-agent 2B Ben Zobrist (Royals) told the New York Mets he would like to have a set position, for the most part.

Fantasy Tip: Second base is wide open for Zobrist, if he were to join the Mets. His fantasy value is dwindling, though, and he is no longer anything more than a low-end option at the keystone and in the outfield. His perceived value will likely cause him to go too early in drafts, so be wary of reaching for him entering his age-35 season. He hasn't hit 15 home runs or stole 15 bases since the 2012 season, after all.

MLB | Ben Zobrist to sign this week

Mon, 07 Dec 2015 07:59:03 -0800

Free-agent 2B/OF Ben Zobrist (Royals) wants to make a decision on where to sign at the Winter Meetings. The New York Mets, Washington Nationals and San Francisco Giants are all in the mix.

Fantasy Tip: Zobrist is more valuable in real life than in fantasy, but he's a solid MI option in the middle of drafts.
