Athletics | Several OAK regulars resting Saturday

Sat, 28 May 2016 11:18:24 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, 1B Yonder Alonso and OF Chris Coghlan are out of the starting lineup against Detroit Tigers SP Matt Boyd Saturday, May 28. 1B Billy Butler will bat sixth and play first base, C Josh Phegley will start behind the plate and bat seventh and OF Jake Smolinski will bat ninth and patrol right field.

Fantasy Tip: Butler, Phegley and Smolinski are all batting under .200 this month and should be viewed as nothing more than desperation sources of cap relief in daily fantasy games.

Athletics | Several OAK regulars back in lineup

Sat, 21 May 2016 11:49:09 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns, 1B Yonder Alonso and 2B Chris Coghlan are back in the starting lineup against New York Yankees SP Masahiro Tanaka Saturday, May 21. In addition, C Matt McBride will bat eighth and start behind the plate, while INF Maxwell Muncy bats ninth and plays the hot corner. C/1B Stephen Vogt is receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: After a slow start this season, Alonso is batting .296 over the past four weeks, although he has just one home run and eight RBI over 71 at-bats. At the other end of the spectrum, Coghlan is hitting just .152 over that same stretch and should be avoided in all fantasy formats. McBride and Muncy should be viewed as little more than sources of desperation cap relief.

Athletics | Yonder Alonso, Chris Coghlan out

Wed, 18 May 2016 10:16:37 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Yonder Alonso and 2B/OF Chris Coghlan are out of the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Martin Perez Wednesday, May 18. 1B Billy Butler is starting at first base and is hitting sixth, while INF Tyler Ladendorf is starting at the keystone and batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: It's the fourth straight lefty the A's are facing, and it's clear that Oakland would rather sit Alonso and Coghlan against southpaws. Butler has very minimal upside without a lot of extra-base prowess these days. Ladendorf doesn't move the fantasy needle at all.

Athletics | Yonder Alonso, Chris Coghlan sitting

Mon, 16 May 2016 14:42:37 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Yonder Alonso and 2B Chris Coghlan are not in the starting lineup against Texas Rangers left-handed SP Derek Holland Monday, May 16. 1B Billy Butler is starting at first base and hitting sixth, while 2B Tyler Ladendorf is at the keystone and is batting ninth.

Fantasy Tip: Only consider Butler or Ladendorf for your daily lineups if you're desperate for salary cap relief. Butler is hitting .218 (12-for-55) with no home runs on the year and Ladendorf is extremely limited offensively, especially hitting at the bottom of the order.

Athletics | Chris Coghlan out of the lineup

Sun, 15 May 2016 08:45:29 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup against Tampa Bay Rays SP Matt Moore Sunday, May 15. 3B Tyler Ladendorf will start at second base and is batting ninth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Ladendorf has gone hitless in all four of his at-bats this season and should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Athletics | Danny Valencia, Jed Lowrie out injured

Tue, 10 May 2016 13:24:53 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) and 2B Jed Lowrie (foot) are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, May 10. 1B Yonder Alonso moves to third base and is hitting seventh, while 2B Chris Coghlan is starting at second base and batting ninth against Boston Red Sox SP Sean O'Sullivan. 1B Billy Butler is playing first base and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia just came off the DL for a hammy pull late last week, so this is concerning. Prepare for the worst -- another trip to the DL. Lowrie's X-rays came back negative and he's day-to-day. Act accordingly. Against O'Sullivan, Coghlan, Alonso and Butler could be worth selections as deep sleepers in daily games, but they're long shots to put up big numbers.

Athletics | Khris Davis, Coco Crisp sitting out

Sun, 08 May 2016 09:57:15 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis and OF Coco Crisp are not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Sunday, May 8. 2B Jed Lowrie will serve as the designated hitter. OF Mark Canha will start in left field and is batting second, while 2B Chris Coghlan will start at second base and is batting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Both Canha and Coghlan are hitting under .150 over the first month of the season and are not strong starting candidates for owners.

Athletics | Jed Lowrie out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 08 May 2016 08:19:11 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie is not in the starting lineup against Baltimore Orioles SP Chris Tillman Sunday, May 8. INF Chris Coghlan will bat eighth and play the keystone position. In addition, OF Mark Canha is batting second and playing left field, with OFs Coco Crisp and Khris Davis receiving the day off.

Fantasy Tip: Lowrie's absence from Sunday's lineup is not surprising, given that he manned second base during both games of Saturday's doubleheader. Coghlan has collected just three hits in his last 36 at-bats and should be avoided in all fantasy formats.

Athletics | Three A's out for nightcap

Sat, 07 May 2016 14:23:54 -0700

Oakland Athletics C Stephen Vogt, OF Coco Crisp and 3B Danny Valencia are out for Game 2 of a doubleheader Saturday, May 7. C Josh Phegley is hitting eighth, 1B Billy Butler is hitting sixth and 3B Chris Coghlan hits fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Phegley has a .310 average on the season and could be a sneaky basement flyer against Ubaldo Jimenez. Cogs is hitting just .155 and .118 in the last seven days. He has four homers and 11 RBI, and the matchup is nice. We could see streaming him tonight. Butler has been a shell of his former self this year, and he's not worth the start.

Athletics | Jed Lowrie takes a seat

Mon, 02 May 2016 14:27:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 2. 2B/OF Chris Coghlan shifts to second base and is batting sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns. OF Mark Canha is playing third base and hitting seventh. Also, OF Coco Crisp moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan has four home runs and 10 RBI in just 75 at-bats but is hitting .160 on the year. He's a sleeper pick in daily formats if you're looking to save a little money. Canha and Crisp could also project as fine value plays in DFS action tonight against Karns. Canha is hitting .264 with 14 of his 19 career home runs against right-handers.
