Athletics | Jed Lowrie takes a seat

Mon, 02 May 2016 14:27:07 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie is not in the starting lineup Monday, May 2. 2B/OF Chris Coghlan shifts to second base and is batting sixth against Seattle Mariners SP Nathan Karns. OF Mark Canha is playing third base and hitting seventh. Also, OF Coco Crisp moves up to the two-hole.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan has four home runs and 10 RBI in just 75 at-bats but is hitting .160 on the year. He's a sleeper pick in daily formats if you're looking to save a little money. Canha and Crisp could also project as fine value plays in DFS action tonight against Karns. Canha is hitting .264 with 14 of his 19 career home runs against right-handers.

Athletics | Chris Coghlan not getting it done

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 21:12:02 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Chris Coghlan was hitless in three at-bats Monday, April 25, against the Detroit Tigers, as his batting average slipped to .182.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan is getting a chance to play regularly with Danny Valencia on the DL, but he is not taking advantage of the playing time. He is worth using in most AL-only fantasy leagues if he continues to see at-bats, but it might not be long until he is back to a reserve role and someone else gets a try if he doesn't start producing soon.

Athletics | Danny Valencia, Yonder Alonso out

Thu, 21 Apr 2016 11:17:17 -0700

Oakland Athletics 3B Danny Valencia (hamstring) and 1B Yonder Alonso are not in the starting lineup Thursday, April 21. OF Chris Coghlan is at third base and hitting sixth, while OF Mark Canha is at first base and batting second against New York Yankees SP Luis Severino. Also, 2B Jed Lowrie moves to the cleanup spot.

Fantasy Tip: Valencia could miss a few more game, so make sure you have a suitable replacement in place. Canha has a nice lineup position and actually hits better against righties than lefties, so he's worth a cheap flyer in DFS as a deep sleeper. Coghlan is hitting .184 but has a three-game hitting streak. He's a low-end outfield option today.

Athletics | Coco Crisp, Billy Butler still out

Wed, 20 Apr 2016 11:51:19 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Coco Crisp and 1B Billy Butler remain out of the starting lineup Wednesday, April 20. OF Billy Burns remains the leadoff man and is in center, while OF Chris Coghlan is at second base and is hitting second against New York Yankees SP Nathan Eovaldi. 2B Jed Lowrie is serving as the designated hitter and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Crisp (.158) and Butler (.150) are both trending downward after slow starts to the year. Burns is a younger version of Crisp with plenty of speed, and he's a fine daily pick against Eovaldi tonight. Coghlan hits righties much better in his career and could be worth the flyer as a deep sleeper in the two-hole. Lowrie is coming off a four-hit game. Ride him while he's hot.

Athletics | Billy Butler, Coco Crisp out

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 11:23:49 -0700

Oakland Athletics 1B Billy Butler and OF Coco Crisp are not in the starting lineup Tuesday, April 19. OF Khris Davis moves to the designated hitter spot and is batting seventh, while OF Chris Coghlan is starting in left field and hitting second against New York Yankees SP Michael Pineda.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has only six hits in 37 at-bats (.162) with 15 strikeouts, so until he breaks out of his funk it'd be wise to avoid him in daily formats. Coghlan hits righties well; all 16 of his long balls last season came against right-handers. He makes for an intriguing low-priced sleeper against Pineda Tuesday.

Athletics | Jed Lowrie sitting out

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 11:22:22 -0700

Oakland Athletics 2B Jed Lowrie is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Kris Medlen. 2B Chris Coghlan will start at second base and is batting sixth, while 1B Billy Butler will serve as the designated hitter and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Butler has only one hit in his last 15 at-bats and is no longer an everyday starter. Butler could be a candidate for owners in daily fantasy leagues, but they should be able to find better players for their lineups.

Athletics | Billy Burns, Billy Butler sitting vs. Royals

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 13:31:55 -0700

Oakland Athletics DH Billy Butler and OF Billy Burns are not in the starting lineup Friday, April 15. 2B Chris Coghlan is batting second as the designated hitter against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Butler is 3-for-18 to start the season, and following a poor 2015 showing (.251/.323/.390), the veteran could continue to see fewer at-bats if he struggles. Burns, however, owns a respectable .280 batting average with three runs and three stolen bases, but he is still losing playing time to Coco Crisp. Coghlan is worth a look in daily contests Friday, as he posted a respectable .264/.355/.476 slash line against right-handed pitchers in 2015.

Athletics | Khris Davis, Jed Lowrie resting

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 09:40:47 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Khris Davis and 2B Jed Lowrie are not in the starting lineup Wednesday, April 13. OF Coco Crisp is starting in left field and is in the two-hole, while OF Chris Coghlan is starting at second base and batting sixth against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Matt Shoemaker.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has fizzled out of the gates, hitting just .167 (5-for-30) with 14 strikeouts. You should consider keeping him benched when he returns until he shows signs of life. Against Shoemaker, who had a 4.46 ERA last year and looked shaky in his first start this year, both Crisp and Coghlan could be sneaky daily sleepers Wednesday afternoon.

Athletics | Billy Burns out again

Mon, 11 Apr 2016 14:27:04 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns is not in the starting lineup for the third straight game Monday, April 11. OF Coco Crisp is in center field and is batting leadoff against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Nick Tropeano. Also, 1B Billy Butler is out in favor of OF Chris Coghlan as the designated hitter. Coghlan is batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Burns and Crisp are splitting time in center field, which will limit the fantasy value of the speedster Burns. Take note and add Crisp if you need outfield depth in deep mixed formats. Crisp and Coghlan could return nice value in daily formats tonight against Tropeano, who is making his season debut.

Athletics | Billy Burns out of the lineup

Sat, 09 Apr 2016 16:22:25 -0700

Oakland Athletics OF Billy Burns is out of the lineup Saturday, April 9, with OF Coco Crisp leading off. OF Chris Coghlan is hitting second.

Fantasy Tip: Cogs is off to a 4-for-10 (.400) start with a homer and three RBIs. He's worth a look tonight, while Crisp doesn't move the needle much.
