Thu, 13 Jun 2013 09:31:31 -0700 Miami Marlins OF Chris Coghlan (back) will be examined Sunday, June 16, by a back specialist. Coghlan, who was recently placed on the disabled list, will probably have to miss more than the allotted 15 days because an MRI revealed an unspecified back injury.
Sun, 09 Jun 2013 11:42:14 -0700 The Miami Marlins have activated 1B Logan Morrison (knee) from the 15-day disabled list. In a corresponding move, OF Chris Coghlan (calf) has been placed on the 15-day disabled list because of nerve irritation in his right calf.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 14:10:48 -0700 Miami Marlins manager Mike Redmond said OF Chris Coghlan could play some third base and OF Marcell Ozuna could shift to center field when OF Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) returns from the disabled list. Fantasy Tip: Looks as though the Marlins will get creative to keep two of their hottest bats in the lineup, Coghlan and Ozuna, when Stanton comes back. Coghlan and Ozuna might be available in your deep mixed league. While their swinging well and seeing playing time, it's not a bad idea to give them a run.
Mon, 03 Jun 2013 16:12:05 -0700 Miami Marlins OF Chris Coghlan has started every game since May 18 and is batting .400 (22-for-55) with four doubles, a home run and eight RBIs in those 15 games. He's also sporting a nine-game hitting streak with a .297 batting average during that time. Coghlan hit only .180 in 20 games in April but is hitting .322 in 26 games in May. Former OF Preston Wilson said Coghlan has changed up his hitting mechanics, and Coghlan is now making contact earlier in his swing. Manager Mike Redmond plans to keep Coghlan in the No. 5 spot in the order. Fantasy Tip: Coghlan's performance has really impressed Redmond, and the former Rookie of the Year has made the most of his opportunities. This has earned Coghlan more playing time, at least until the club is ready to call up either Christian Yelich or Jake Marisnick. That might be a ways off, though, and Coghlan can help owners out in deep mixed leagues in the meantime.
Sun, 31 Mar 2013 09:41:44 -0700 Miami Marlins manager Mike Redmond said OFs Chris Coghlan and Justin Ruggiano will platoon in center field until someone steps up and takes over the job full-time.
Thu, 28 Mar 2013 13:04:00 -0700 Miami Marlins OF Chris Coghlan entered the final day of camp hitting .311 with a home run and 17 RBIs in 19 spring games. "He has been great," manager Mike Redmond said. "He is making the most of his opportunity. (Tuesday) it was just kind of a topper for him to get that pinch-hit home run. A nice swing off the bench." OF Gorkys Hernandez is competing with Coghlan for a roster spot, but the team may be trying to trade Hernandez. Coghlan has one minor league option left and Hernandez is out of options. Fantasy Tip: Keep an eye on how this situation shakes out. Whoever wins the roster spot is worth a look in deep NL-only leagues.
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 15:10:37 -0700 Miami Marlins manager Mike Redmond said he may choose to go with a platoon in center field to start the year. OF Christian Yelich may be Redmond's top choice, but he's expected to start the season at Double-A Jacksonville. Yelich is hitting .381 this spring and leads the team with five home runs and 13 RBIs. "I play him all the time. I love him. Like I said, he's had a great spring. He's done everything we've asked of him. But at the end of the day, he's never had an at-bat above A ball, and we have to make sure we're doing the right thing for him and the organization," Redmond said. OFs Chris Coghlan, Gorkys Hernandez and Justin Ruggiano (back) are the realistic candidates. Ruggiano is 1-for-11 after returning from a back injury and doesn't look 100 percent healthy. Coghlan has a minor league option left, but he appears to deserve a spot the most. The team will not move OF Juan Pierre from left field to center. Fantasy Tip: Ruggiano is in line for regression after a very fortunate hit rate last season as he emerged out of nowhere. He's somewhat intriguing, but mainly only for his power. Coghlan and Hernandez only stand out in NL-only leagues, and their luster is lessened with platoon possibilities. Yelich will probably see major league at-bats later in the season.
Thu, 07 Mar 2013 15:39:43 -0800 The Miami Marlins' center field job is wide open, with OFs Justin Ruggiano (back) and Chris Coghlan competing for the spot. Ruggiano is hoping to make his spring debut Saturday, March 9, after being bothered by a tight lower back. Coghlan is 6-for-20 (.300) with a double and two RBIs in his seven spring games. "We're going to run him out in center. We haven't had anybody stand out yet, so there's still an opportunity for somebody to take that job. Right now, he's swinging the bat and doing everything he can possibly do," manager Mike Redmond said of Coghlan. OFs Gorkys Hernandez, Bryan Petersen and Kevin Mattison are secondary options. Hernandez is out of minor league options, however, and Coghlan has one option left. OFs Jake Marisnick and Christian Yelich will open with Double-A Jacksonville.
Sat, 23 Feb 2013 23:32:11 -0800 Miami Marlins OF Gorkys Hernandez started in the outfield Saturday, Feb. 23, in place of OF Justin Ruggiano (back). Marlins manager Mike Redmond said there are other options in case Ruggiano is out for a while. "Bryan Petersen, Chris Coghlan, those guys can also go in there," Redmond said. "We'll mix guys in, Christian Yelich and Jake Marisnick. I'm going to get them in some games, too. I'd like to see them play. We got some other guys: Kevin Mattison. We'll try to mix guys in and out as much as we possibly can and see how it all shakes out."
Fri, 01 Feb 2013 05:43:48 -0800 The Boston Red Sox had talks about a three-team deal that would acquire Miami Marlins OF Chris Coghlan before they signed 1B Lyle Overbay.
