Cubs | Chris Coghlan not starting Sunday

Sun, 30 Aug 2015 14:46:22 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Coghlan is not starting the Sunday, Aug. 30, game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. OF Chris Denorfia is in right field and hitting second against Cubs SP Alex Wood.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is hitting .158 in the past seven days, so with the left vs. left matchup it is an appropriate time to sit him. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has four hits in five at-bats against Wood and may be worth the small FantasyScore price.

Cubs | Chris Denorfia batting second

Fri, 28 Aug 2015 15:43:50 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Denorfia is starting in right field and batting second against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw Friday, Aug. 28. 2B Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has been manning the outfield of late, but he rarely starts against lefties. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) shouldn't be viewed as anything more than a desperation flier at FantasyScore Friday. Kershaw ($9,900, 19.8% of cap) presents an incredibly difficult matchup.

Cubs | No Chris Coghlan against San Fran

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 11:21:51 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup Thursday, Aug. 27. 2B Starlin Castro is starting at second base and batting fifth against San Francisco Giants SP Madison Bumgarner Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has been an excellent contributor of late with 13 runs, four home runs, 11 RBI and a .840 OPS in August. However, he rarely plays against lefties, so make sure to take that in consideration before adding him to your seasonal team. Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) isn't a strong FantasyScore play Thursday against Bumgarner ($9,600, 19.2% of cap), but it is worth noting, Castro is currently riding a respectable 20-for-69 stretch.

Cubs | Chris Coghlan stays hot

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 19:39:14 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Coghlan went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in a 5-3 win over the Atlanta Braves Friday, Aug. 21, and he has four home runs in his last six games.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) has driven in at least one run in four straight games, and he has 10 RBI and eight runs scored over his last six. His hot streak won't last forever, but he is a solid buy at FantasyScore in the meantime.

Cubs | Starlin Castro draws into the lineup

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 15:34:50 -0700

Chicago Cubs 2B Starlin Castro is starting at second base and batting sixth against Detroit Tigers SP Daniel Norris Wednesday, Aug. 19. OF Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Coghlan ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) in all fantasy formats Wednesday. It is worth noting, though, he should now have second base eligibility in the majority of leagues, and he has a respectable .263/.314/.525 slash line with 10 runs, six home runs, 12 RBI and four stolen bases over his past 25 games. Castro ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) should be dropped in all seasonal formats, but it isn't out of the question to take a flier on him at FantasyScore given his low cap hit.

Cubs | Starlin Castro benched

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 13:27:33 -0700

Updating a previous report, Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro was benched by manager Joe Maddon Friday, Aug. 7, and there is no assurance that Castro will be back in the lineup Saturday, Aug. 8. OF Chris Coghlan shifted over to second base, 2B Addison Russell moved to shortstop and C Kyle Schwarber was in left field Friday. Maddon said this is something that will be considered daily. Castro is hitting only .238 with a .274 on-base percentage after going 0-for-3 and stranding six runners in scoring position Thursday, Aug. 6. President Theo Epstein also spoke to Maddon and agreed with the move.

Fantasy Tip: Castro ($3,300, 6.6% of cap) owners should have seen this coming the way he had been swinging the bat last year. The Cubs also considered trading him at the deadline in order to move Russell over to his primary position at shortstop. Castro should at least find his way into the lineup against lefties, but his value takes an even bigger hit since the Cubs want to keep Schwarber's bat in the lineup as much as they can.

Cubs | Starlin Castro not playing

Fri, 07 Aug 2015 11:12:05 -0700

Chicago Cubs SS Starlin Castro is not in the starting lineup Friday, Aug. 7. 2B Addison Russell moves to shortstop and OF Chris Coghlan is starting at second base and hitting third against San Francisco Giants SP Ryan Vogelsong.

Fantasy Tip: Castro has struggled for most of the season, and Joe Maddon suggested that Castro could lose more playing time now that Miguel Montero is back and Kyle Schwarber's bat will continue to be in the lineup. If you haven't already done so, make sure to have plans to replace Castro if he loses more playing time. Coghlan ($3,500, 7.0% of cap) will likely be overlooked on FantasyScore, but he's batting .260 and has all 11 of his homers against right-handed pitchers this year. He's a sleeper pick that could reward handsomely today.

Cubs | Chris Coghlan not starting Monday

Mon, 03 Aug 2015 12:49:15 -0700

Chicago Cubs OF Chris Coghlan is not in the starting lineup against Pittsburgh Pirates SP Francisco Liriano Monday, Aug. 3. OF Chris Denorfia will start in left field and is batting second in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Coghlan ($3,000, 6.0% of cap) usually sits out against left-handed pitchers. Denorfia ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) has only two hits in his last eight games, and owners should be able to find better options to use on FantasyScore.

Cubs | Kris Bryant receives night off vs. Brewers

Thu, 30 Jul 2015 13:14:33 -0700

Chicago Cubs 3B Kris Bryant is not in the starting lineup Thursday, July 30. OF Chris Coghlan is filling in at third base and batting third against Milwaukee Brewers SP Jimmy Nelson Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: Bryant ($5,400, 10.8% of cap) is due for a night off, and he hasn't been at his best in July with a .176/.276/.385 slash line. Coghlan ($3,000, 6.0% of cap), meanwhile, has picked up his play over the past 50 games (38 starts) and boasts a .291/.395/.444 slash line with 20 runs, four home runs, 13 RBI and five stolen bases. He is a low-priced flier for FantasyScore contests Thursday.
