Pirates | Hoping Jose Tabata can help

Mon, 25 Aug 2014 18:25:26 -0700

Updating a previous report, Pittsburgh Pirates OF Jose Tabata is back with the big club, and he might be helpful off the bench like he was last September. He hit .362 with an .872 OPS with nine multi-hit games over his past 15 with Triple-A Indianapolis. "Tabata proved himself to be a very good bat off the bench while he was here this year, even last September played a pivotal role in what we were able to do," manager Clint Hurdle said. "He went down, went about his work in a professional manner, he's coming off a very good, solid week - last two weeks - swinging the bat."

Pirates | Andrew McCutchen going on DL, could be out for a month

Mon, 04 Aug 2014 13:48:49 -0700

The Pittsburgh Pirates are expected to place OF Andrew McCutchen (oblique) on the 15-day disabled list because of an oblique injury, and he could be out at least three to four weeks, according to a source.

Fantasy Tip: Starling Marte likely will take over in center field when he comes off the seven-day disabled list. Travis Snider likely will see most of the playing time while McCutchen is out but could also be part of a platoon with a right-handed hitter. Jose Tabata, Michael Martinez, Jayson Nix and Matt Hague are options to see playing time as part of a platoon but likely would only be options in NL-only leagues. Owners in deeper mixed leagues should look to add Snider if they have the chance.
