Pittsburgh Pirates OF Jose Tabata (hamstring) was available off the bench Tuesday, May 7, but he was not used. "If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I might not as optimistic," manager Clint Hurdle said. "He showed some running strength. This is a completely different injury than he's had (to his left leg) before, and nowhere near as severe."
Fantasy Tip: It appears that Tabata will be able to avoid the disabled list, for now. Without consistent playing time in the Bucs' outfield, though, it's hard to recommend him, unless you're in a cavernous deep mixed league with five outfield spots.

Pittsburgh Pirates manager Clint Hurdle acknowledged that there will be some tough competitions for roster spots next season, most notably at first base between 1Bs Garrett Jones and Gaby Sanchez, but he also has a decent idea of who his starters will be. "(Andrew) McCutchen will play center, (Clint) Barmes will play short, (Pedro) Alvarez will play third, (Neil) Walker will play second, and (catcher Michael) McKenry is going to be back," Hurdle said in his final pregame media session of the season. "Jones, going in, has added value to find a spot for him." OFs Alex Presley and Jose Tabata will have to fight off OFs Starling Marte and Travis Snider to regain their starting outfield roles.
