The Post Gazette reports the Pittsburgh Steelers will take a look at free agent LS Brian Kinchen on Friday. He could be signed as the team's new long-snapper, if they don't feel TE John Allred can get the job done. As noted earlier, current LS Mike Schneck could miss up to six weeks of action. The team also took a look earlier this week at LS/TE Mike Leach and LS/DT Randy Chevrier.

Steelers.com reports Pittsburgh Steelers TE John Allred (ACL/MCL) says he is 100 percent healthy and is ready for training camp. Allred's hard work and determination has paid off since injuring both the ACL and MCL in his right knee in 2000. Head coach Bill Cowher has been impressed with Allred's fluidity in running routes and his excellent hands.

Updating an earlier story, the Post Gazette reports the one-year contract signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers by TE John Allred is worth $525,000, if he makes the team. He will count only $450,000 against the 2002 cap.

The Chicago Sun Times reports the Chicago Bears have opened negotiations with soon-to-be free agent DE Bryan Robinson with hopes of locking him up to a new long-term deal before free agency begins. The team plans to let CB Walt Harris, G Todd Perry, WR Eddie Kennison, WR Macey Brooks, C Casey Wiegmann, TE John Allred, DE Clyde Simmons, DE Van Tuinei and CB Frankie Smith test the free agent market this year. All are unrestricted free agents.
