Rays | Chris Archer continues to own Twins

Sun, 17 May 2015 20:40:36 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed one run on four hits and struck out four over six innings in an 11-3 win over the Minnesota Twins Sunday, May 17, and he is now 4-0 with a 0.75 ERA in four career starts against Minnesota.

Fantasy Tip: Archer ($8,200, 16.4% of cap) had been struggling in the month of May, but he has now delivered back-to-back solid outings. He owns a 2.47 ERA for the year and with 62 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings, he is worth paying for at FantasyScore against most opponents.

Rays | Chris Archer dominates Yankees

Tue, 12 May 2015 12:13:29 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer faces the New York Yankees on Tuesday, May 12. Archer has a 5-0 record and 1.93 earned run average in six starts against the Yankees. The last pitcher to start 6-0 against the Yankees was Greg Hibbard (1990-1994).

Fantasy Tip: Archer ($8,200, 16.4% of cap) has been a solid pitcher this season and has become the Rays' dominant hurler, especially with injuries to Alex Cobb and Drew Smyly. He is a must-start in daily leagues, especially with his luck against New York.

Rays | Chris Archer joins odd club

Thu, 07 May 2015 17:18:16 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer became the fifth starter ever to allow 4-plus runs, 4-plus walks and still strikeout 8-plus batters in less than four innings pitched Thursday, May 7, against the Texas Rangers.

Fantasy Tip: Archer ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) entered the game with an ERA of 1.64 and only 2.35 walks per nine. It was a rough outing for Archer, but owners shouldn't be concerned and can continue to start Archer in most matchups.

Rays | Chris Archer becoming elite?

Thu, 07 May 2015 10:52:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer may be on his way to becoming an elite starting pitcher in the big leagues after starting 3-3 with a 1.64 ERA in six starts. He's fanning 9.9 hitters per nine innings, inducing weak contact and more ground balls and neutralizing lefty hitters by using his slider and changeup almost as much as he's used his fastball. Last year, he threw his fastball two-thirds of the time, and he's throwing the heater just 53% of the time in 2015. Archer also admits he's been quicker to home plate this season, and he's only allowed one stolen base this year after allowing 30 last season. Perhaps most importantly, a scout noted that "he's controlling his emotions more this season."

Fantasy Tip: Archer's ($8,100, 16.2% of cap) gains in 2015 are real, and he's well worth his high FantasyScore price against the Texas Rangers tonight.

Rays | Chris Archer dominates Blue Jays

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 19:58:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed two hits and struck out 11 over seven shutout innings in a win over the Toronto Blue Jays Thursday, April 16.

Fantasy Tip: Archer ($6,100, 12.2% of cap) is now 2-1 on the year with a 1.37 ERA, and he is showing signs of becoming an ace. Continue to start Archer at FantasyScore until his hot start comes to an end.

Rays | Chris Archer looks to stay hot

Wed, 15 Apr 2015 21:46:43 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer is the probable starter for Thursday, April 16, against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre. He has allowed three earned runs or fewer in 14 straight road outings dating back to May 14. He is tied for the club record with former SP Jeremy Hellickson.

Fantasy Tip: Archer ($6,100; 12.2% of cap) has a favorable matchup against Toronto’s Aaron Sanchez ($4,300; 8.6% of cap), who lasted just 3 ⅓ innings in his first-career start in Baltimore April 11. FantasyScore owners would be wise to target Archer until he cools off on the road.

Rays | Chris Archer to start opener

Thu, 26 Mar 2015 09:21:42 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer was named the Opening Day starter Thursday, March 26.

Fantasy Tip: Archer ($6,800, 13.6% of cap) has a home matchup against the Baltimore Orioles. The O's lost a lot of offense, and 1B Chris Davis still has a game remaining on his suspension. Archer is a solid option on FantasyScore at a reduced rate from the rest of the SP1s.

Rays | Alex Cobb to start opening day

Wed, 04 Mar 2015 10:56:51 -0800

Tampa Bay Rays SP Alex Cobb will start the team's opening day game in 2015, according to manager Kevin Cash. Cobb went 10-9 with a 2.87 ERA in 27 starts in 2014 and is the team's ace after SP David Price was traded to the Detroit Tigers. SPs Chris Archer and Drew Smyly will follow Cobb in the rotation.

Fantasy Tip: Cobb has really come into his own as the Rays' ace starter. He's a notch below the elite fantasy ace names out there, but he could put up just as good numbers in a full season, making him a bargain in the middle rounds of standard 12-team leagues.

Rays | Jeremy Hellickson returning

Wed, 23 Jul 2014 15:10:20 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson will start Saturday, July 26, against the Boston Red Sox. SP Chris Archer will go Sunday, July 27.

Fantasy Tip: Hell Boy was sent down because of the All-Star break and the desire to keep him on a normal rotation schedule. He's a deep-mixed option for the pitching-desperate. There's a smidge of a chance for a good performance down the stretch.
