Thu, 30 May 2013 22:13:30 -0700 The Tampa Bay Rays announced SP Chris Archer will be called up to start Saturday, June 1. Fantasy Tip: It might be a highway to the danger zone. The Cleveland Indians have been hitting well lately, and the 24-year-old still has control issues. Archer is worth a sensibly priced speculation in deep mixed leagues, though, and he should be owned in AL-only and full-retention mixed keeper setups. The length of his stay may depend on the timetable for David Price (triceps) but could be a decent stretch if any other dominoes fall.
Wed, 29 May 2013 14:09:02 -0700 The Tampa Bay Rays recalled RP Alex Colome from the minors Wednesday, May 29, to help out their bullpen. The team will need another starter for Saturday, June 1, and SPs Alexander Torres and Chris Archer are the candidates. Fantasy Tip: Torres was called up recently, but he was used out of the bullpen. Archer is probably the more realistic option after Jake Odorizzi was sent down. Look to add whoever gets the call in AL-only leagues, at least.
Thu, 16 May 2013 14:33:20 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon doesn't think SP David Price (triceps) will miss more than two or three starts, and he isn't concerned about his long-term standing. Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Price owners, as he shouldn't be out for more than two weeks. However, that means whoever takes Price's rotation spot -- Chris Archer or Jake Odorizzi -- will be around only for the short term. They probably won't deserve consideration past AL-only leagues for that reason.
Thu, 16 May 2013 13:15:03 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays SP Jake Odorizzi could be a realistic candidate to take SP David Price's (triceps) turn in the rotation Monday, May 20. SP Chris Archer is scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Durham Thursday, May 16. Fantasy Tip: If Archer makes his start tonight, that would likely eliminate him. Stay tuned. Either way, both Archer and Odorizzi are worth a dart throw in AL-only leagues, even if they're in the rotation for just two weeks.
Thu, 16 May 2013 11:44:07 -0700 The Tampa Bay Rays placed SP David Price (triceps) on the 15-day disabled list with a left triceps strain Thursday, May 16, and recalled SP Alexander Torres from the minors in a corresponding move. Fantasy Tip: Torres could be used to help out in the bullpen in the meantime, so Chris Archer remains a candidate to come up to start Monday and for however long Price is out. Jake Odorizzi pitched Wednesday, so he's on turn, but he pitched poorly in his outing. Archer is the best bet to fill the vacant rotation spot for the short term, and he'll be a popular waiver wire target in AL-only leagues. He's worth a look in deep mixed formats, as well, depending on the matchups.
Thu, 16 May 2013 11:33:25 -0700 The Tampa Bay Rays recalled SP Alexander Torres from Triple-A Durham Thursday, May 16. Fantasy Tip: Torres could make a spot start in place of David Price (triceps) Monday, but the Rays might be bringing him up to help out in the bullpen in the meantime. Chris Archer remains a possibility to come up for a spot start or two. Both pitchers are worth owning in AL-only leagues, even if it's temporary.
Thu, 16 May 2013 11:07:46 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays SP David Price (triceps) was diagnosed with a strained left triceps muscle and is likely to miss his next scheduled start Monday, May 20. Price will be re-evaluated Thursday, May 16. "It just felt (like) tightness," Price said. "It wasn't like excruciating pain, but I've never felt anything like that before. My gut feeling, I feel OK right now. I don't think it's too bad." Fantasy Tip: It's unclear at this point if Price's triceps ailment will cause him to miss more than one turn in the rotation. Meanwhile, Alexander Torres, Chris Archer and Jake Odorizzi are all options to come up from Triple-A Durham to fill in for price. If it's just a spot start, Torres probably makes the most sense. If not, Archer is a good speculation in cavernous mixed leagues and AL-only formats.
Mon, 06 May 2013 16:53:50 -0700 Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer (calf) was scratched from his start with Triple-A Durham with a minor calf contusion Monday, May 6.
Wed, 13 Mar 2013 11:21:05 -0700 The Tampa Bay Rays reassigned SPs Alexander Torres, Jake Odorizzi and Chris Archer to minor league camp Tuesday, March 12.
Sat, 02 Mar 2013 10:50:56 -0800 The Tampa Bay Rays have agreed to terms with the following players on one-year contracts: Ps Chris Archer, Alex Cobb, Alex Colome, Frank De Los Santos, Brandon Gomes, Brandon Guyer, Josh Lueke, Jake McGee, Mike Montgomery, Jake Odorizzi, Cesar Ramos, Felipe Rivero, Enny Romero and Alexander Torres, Cs Robinson Chirinos, Chris Gimenez, Jose Lobaton and Stephen Vogt, INFs Tim Beckham and Hak-Ju Lee and OF Desmond Jennings. They have also renewed the contract of SP Jeremy Hellickson. As a result, all members of the team's 40-man roster are now under contract for the 2013 season.
