Dodgers | L.A. likely to land Chris Archer?

Thu, 21 Jul 2016 11:25:21 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers are a good fit for Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer, and an executive that's been talking to the Rays places the odds at "70%" that Archer is traded to Los Angeles.

Fantasy Tip: The Dodgers front office has ties to the Rays, and the Blue are desperate for starters with Clayton Kershaw, Alex Wood and Hyun-Jin Ryu all injured. Archer's shaky control this year has led to big disappointment. He's sporting a 4.60 ERA and 1.39 WHIP but has shown slow improvements of late. A move to the Dodgers and the NL West would surely make him a candidate for a second-half rebound.

Rays | Chris Archer whiffs 11 in Coors

Wed, 20 Jul 2016 22:01:24 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed just two earned runs, four hits and two walks with 11 strikeouts over six innings in a win Wednesday, July 20, against the Colorado Rockies. He threw 67 of his 105 pitches for strikes in the quality start.

Fantasy Tip: The win was Archer's first since June 6, and it was his first quality start in seven outings since June 17. He has a high strikeout rate and despite the lack of wins he is still a solid AL-only fantasy option and DFS play.

Rangers | Texas interested in most Tampa starters

Sun, 17 Jul 2016 13:13:28 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SPs Jake Odorizzi and Drew Smyly are possible trade targets for the Texas Rangers, but the Rangers are not pursuing SP Chris Archer.

Fantasy Tip: The Rangers are looking to add to their starting rotation and could add either Odorizzi or Smyly. They likely would see a boost in their value since they would be playing for a better team and would be decent options in mixed leagues.

Rays | Chris Archer drawing trade interest

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 10:26:24 -0700

Scouts for the Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Miami Marlins, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers and Washington Nationals were present for Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer's start against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, July 15.

Fantasy Tip: Archer allowed four runs on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings in a loss to Baltimore Friday, with one walk and six strikeouts. A trade to a contender would do wonders for the fantasy value of the 27-year-old right-hander, who leads the league in losses (13) but has struck out 136 batters over 117 1/3 innings.

Rays | Chris Archer's losing streak continues

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 19:53:20 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer (4-13) allowed four runs on seven hits over 7 1/3 innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles Friday, July 15, with one walk and six strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Archer leads the majors with 13 losses and has only won once in his last 11 outings, in a span covering nearly two months. Aside from high strikeout totals (136 through 117 1/3 innings), he doesn't offer much else from a fantasy standpoint. Archer's next scheduled start will come against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field Wednesday, July 20, and he should be avoided in DFS.

Dodgers | LAD interested in Chris Archer

Sun, 03 Jul 2016 07:08:31 -0700

The Los Angeles Dodgers have expressed interest in Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer. However, the Rays are not expected to part with the 27-year-old right-hander.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is experiencing a down season, with a 4-11 record and 4.76 ERA through 17 starts, although he has 117 strikeouts in just 98 1/3 innings. A move from the hitter-friendly American League East to the National League West would be a huge boost to his fantasy value. For now, he is only worth using in DFS when he has an extremely favorable matchup.

Rays | Chris Archer loses his 11th game

Tue, 28 Jun 2016 20:50:38 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed four earned runs, seven hits and four walks with nine strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings in a loss Tuesday, June 28, against the Boston Red Sox. The setback was his league-leading 11th loss of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Archer also slipped to 1-8 in his career against the Red Sox, his most losses against any opponent. He is still posting a high rate of strikeouts, but the losses are killing fantasy owners.

Rays | Chris Archer looks for turnaround

Mon, 27 Jun 2016 21:12:51 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer is scheduled to start Tuesday, June 28, against the Boston Red Sox. He leads the majors with 10 losses, and he is 1-7 with a 5.67 ERA in 12 career starts against the Red Sox, his most losses against any opponent.

Fantasy Tip: Archer should be avoided in fantasy leagues which permit daily transactions and DFS play, as he has a terrible matchup in his one.

Rays | Chris Archer suffers 10th loss

Wed, 22 Jun 2016 19:55:48 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer allowed four earned runs, six hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six innings in a loss Wednesday, June 22, against the Cleveland Indians. Archer threw just 61 of his 97 pitches for strikes.

Fantasy Tip: Archer is 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in two outings against the Tribe this season, and he is 0-5 with a 5.14 ERA in five starts against Cleveland since the start of the 2013 season. Archer is still posting a decent amount of strikeouts for fantasy owners, but the 10 losses before the All-Star break is a huge disappointment.

Rays | Chris Archer tagged with loss Friday

Fri, 17 Jun 2016 19:19:41 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays SP Chris Archer (4-9) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits over six innings in a loss to the San Francisco Giants Friday, June 17, with three walks and seven strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Despite his subpar record, Archer remains a useful starter to own in seasonal fantasy leagues because of his high strikeout totals. However, he has posted a 4.90 ERA through four outings in June, so daily fantasy players will want to look for favorable matchups before automatically pencilling him into their lineups. His next start will come against the Cleveland Indians Wednesday, June 22.
