The Pittsburgh Steelers have given a first-tier qualifying tender offer to restricted free agent LS Mike Schneck. Schneck's agent, Paul Sheehy, confirmed to KFFL on Tuesday the tender offer has been received. The Steelers also picked up the option on TE Cory Geason's contract.

Paul Sheehy, of ProStar, has informed KFFL that the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed his client, TE Cory Geason, today. Geason was with the club for all of the 2000 season and was released with an injury settlement just before the season.

The Tribune-Review reports Pittsburgh Steelers FB Jon Witman (back) said he will resume practicing next week. FB Dan Kreider will workout for coach Bill Cowher on Sunday to determine the extent of his recovery from his calf injury. TE Cory Geason has a partial tear of the plantar fascia ligament in his foot, but he is expected to fully recover by the second week of the regular season.

The Tribune Review reports the Pittsburgh Steelers allowed RB Jerome Bettis to sit out last night's pre-season game a precautionary measure. FBs Jon Witman (back) and Dan Kreider (calf), CB Chad Scott (knee) and WR Hines Ward (knee) all sat out as well. CB Jason Simmons suffered a stinger and TE Cory Geason sprained his left foot in the second quarter and didn't return. WR Demetrius Brown injured his hamstring in the third quarter and also did not return.
