San Francisco Giants 1B Angel Villalona, who was charged with murder in the Dominican Republic, is expected to report to spring training next week. He has obtained a visa that the United States refused to give him last year. However, Villalona still remains on the restricted list, and the team will petition to have him removed once he reports to camp in Arizona.

San Francisco Giants 1B Angel Villalona, placed on the restricted list Friday, April 6, is working out at the team's complex in the Dominican Republic. "Since Villalona has been unable to acquire a visa yet, we are cancelling his option to (Class A) San Jose," vice president Bobby Evans said via text message. "He has been placed on the major league restricted list while we await further updates on his visa status."

San Francisco Giants 1B Angel Villalona had his report date to spring camp delayed once again due to repeated problems with his work visa. "It's a visa that requires that they be an elite athlete. And currently, he's not in what they viewed as ... top physical condition," vice president of player personnel Bobby Evans said. The HIPAA Privacy Rule prevented Evans from citing specifics about Villalona's health status, but Villalona has a history of weight issues.

Updating previous reports, San Francisco Giants 1B Angel Villalona had his work visa approved by the U.S. Immigration Service. He is expected to report to spring training camp Feb. 23, along with the other position players.
