Rams | Zac Stacy needs push for 1,000 yards

Wed, 11 Dec 2013 00:40:17 -0800

St. Louis Rams RB Zac Stacy enters Week 15 with 721 rushing yards and is in pursuit of a 1,000-yard rushing season, which would make him just the third by a rookie in team history, joining Jerome Bettis in 1993 and Eric Dickerson in 1983. Eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark would require him to perform just beyond his per-game average of 79 yards in his nine starts this season.

Steelers | Jerome Bettis says Mike Wallace should report

Thu, 09 Aug 2012 09:05:30 -0700

Former NFL RB Jerome Bettis said Pittsburgh Steelers restricted free-agent WR Mike Wallace should report to the team as that is the only way he will ever receive a long-term deal. Bettis added that Wallace doesn't understand how the organization operates. "I think when you go through the history of the Steelers, they do things a bit differently," Bettis said. "And when you look at in relationship to their stars, they still stay one way. They're firm in their resolve and the way they do things ... the problem is, you know, Mike (Wallace) doesn't really understand the concept of how the Steelers work, and so he's got to kind of figure that out. Once he figures that out and comes in, I think they'll work a deal out."

Steelers | Bettis critical of former team

Fri, 18 Sep 2009 07:29:58 -0700

Ron Cook, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports retired RB Jerome Bettis was critical of his former team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, in particular the running backs. "Willie Parker: I haven't seen much from him," Bettis wrote in a column for "Rashard Mendenhall: I haven't really seen him, period ...The running back I like least on that team is Frank Summers, the rookie fullback. He doesn't seem to understand what's going on. He's missing plenty of blocks." Bettis was also critical of the offensive line. "They have no continuity. On top of not being able to protect Ben Roethlisberger, they're letting running backs get hit before they reach the line of scrimmage ... The problem isn't anything new, and I blame the coaching staff for not addressing the line in the offseason ... Pittsburgh can't repeat with the line playing like this."

Rams | Glover pondering retirement

Fri, 26 Dec 2008 05:32:23 -0800

Jim Thomas, of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, reports St. Louis Rams DL La'Roi Glover (knee) will need offseason knee surgery to repair torn cartilage and is considering retirement. "I don't know yet. I really don't," Glover said when asked if he wanted to keep playing beyond this season. "We'll get the last (game) going, try to win it, take a break. See how the family's feeling. Talk to my wife about it, and go from there." However, Glover has thought about retirement enough that he has talked to other players about it. "I talked (Saturday) to a guy who was retired about trying to go out like a Michael Strahan or a Jerome Bettis," Glover said.

Steelers | Bettis thinks Cowher helped run Stewart out of town

Wed, 22 Aug 2007 13:00:33 -0700

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports former NFL RB Jerome Bettis said in his new book that he believes former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Bill Cowher helped Steelers' management run former NFL QB Kordell Stewart out of town because he was due a big contract after his Pro Bowl season in 2001. "You bench your Pro Bowl quarterback for a guy who had been out of football for years, who hadn't started an NFL game in 10 seasons? That just doesn't happen by accident. I think they pulled Kordell partly because they didn't want to pay him a big salary and signing bonus. It was cheaper for them if he didn't have success. If he recovered and had a huge year, then the public sentiment would be, 'Hey, you've got to re-sign him for whatever it costs.' I'm telling you, it was a monetary decision. The Steelers had no interest in paying Kordell his market value," Bettis said in his book.
