Blue Jays | Mild inflammation for Jose Reyes

Tue, 01 Apr 2014 13:26:25 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes' (hamstring) MRI exam showed mild inflammation in his left hamstring.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news, but Reyes will still miss at least the next two weeks. Jonathan Diaz was recalled and is starting at the 6 tonight. He's likely to see the majority of at-bats there in the interim, but you can ignore him everywhere unless you're desperate for a SS body in AL-only leagues.

Blue Jays | Jose Reyes placed on 15-day DL

Mon, 31 Mar 2014 19:38:01 -0700

The Toronto Blue Jays placed SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) on the 15-day disabled list Monday, March 31, due to left hamstring tightness, and they purchased the contract of INF Jonathan Diaz from Triple-A Las Vegas. Reyes battled hamstring soreness during the final week of spring training, and he left Monday's opener after just one at-bat.

Fantasy Tip: Reyes has been dealing with this chronic issue, and his stint on the DL could last longer than the cursory DL trip. With Reyes on the shelf, Ryan Goins and Maicer Izturis are likely to see more at-bats over the coming weeks, and each are decent middle infielder options in some AL-only fantasy leagues. However, don't bother with either player in mixed formats.

Blue Jays | Jose Reyes set for more tests

Mon, 24 Mar 2014 10:59:04 -0700

Toronto Blue Jays SS Jose Reyes (hamstring) is scheduled to undergo an MRI exam Monday, March 24, on his tight left hamstring. He was initially listed as day-to-day, but the tightness in his leg hasn't gone away. Reyes went on the disabled list twice in 2011 for a similar hamstring injury. If Reyes needs to go on the DL to start the year, the team will likely choose from INFs Chris Getz, Jonathan Diaz or Munenori Kawasaki in a backup role at shortstop behind 2B Ryan Goins, who would move over from second base.

Fantasy Tip: Have a backup plan at SS in place if you own Reyes. It's disturbing that Reyes is already dealing with leg issues, but we'll have to wait to hear the extent of his injury. Check back for more news.

Red Sox | Jonathan Diaz called up

Sat, 29 Jun 2013 11:35:32 -0700

The Boston Red Sox have called up 3B Jonathan Diaz from Triple-A Pawtucket. In a corresponding move, RP Clayton Mortensen was designated for assignment.

Fantasy Tip: Diaz is expected to start at the hot corner, with 3B Jose Iglesias moving over to shortstop, while SS Stephen Drew (hamstring) recovers from tightness in his right hamstring. However, Drew's injury does not appear to be serious enough to require a DL stint, so Diaz has very little fantasy value - even in deep AL-only leagues.

Red Sox | Make cuts

Mon, 25 Mar 2013 13:46:19 -0700

The Boston Red Sox reassigned SS Xander Bogaerts, INF Jonathan Diaz and 2B Drew Sutton to minor league camp Monday, March 25.

Fantasy Tip: Bogaerts is the best fantasy option of the the three, but with Jose Iglesias in the mix to back up Stephen Drew if necessary this year, it probably won't be until next year or later when you can consider Bogaerts a viable commodity in anything other than keeper leagues.
