The Sports Xchange reports Vann McElroy, free agent QB Tommy Maddox's (Steelers) agent, denied a report that he had called the Steelers the morning of QB Ben Roethlisberger's accident to inquire if they were interested in re-signing his client. "I called simply to see how Ben was and tell them we hope everything is OK with Ben," McElroy said. "It was not brought up whatsoever. It wasn't the right time at all." The Steelers have not shown any interest in re-signing Maddox.

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports free agent QB Tommy Maddox's (Steelers) representatives called the Pittsburgh Steelers to see if they would have any interest in re-signing their former quarterback, after hearing of QB Ben Roethlisberger's motorcycle accident. Maddox wants to play, not at the expense of Roethlisberger, but he would like work.

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports former Pittsburgh Steelers QB Tommy Maddox picked up his Super Bowl ring from the Steelers' offices Tuesday, June 6. Maddox, who did not accompany the team to the White House or the ring ceremony held at Heinz Field, says he is leaving the door open to returning to football, but that it would have to be the right opportunity, "The thing that's nice about winning a Super Bowl is that at my age you can kind of be picky and see what you want to do." Maddox maybe pursuing a career change with the hopes of competing in golf's Nationwide Tour. Maddox has had visits with the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints and Oakland Raiders this offseason but remains a free agent.

Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers completed their visit with President Bush at the White House Friday, June 2. During the 14-minutes ceremony, Mr. Bush said, "Halfway through the season, a lot of people counted the Pittsburgh Steelers out, said you don't have a chance. I kind of know the feeling." Steelers president Art Rooney presented Mr. Bush with a black Steelers jersey with his name and the No. 43 on the back to honor him as the 43rd president of the United States. WR Hines Ward presented him with a Super Bowl XL football autographed by the team. Several players who left the team over the offseason rejoined their old teammates for the White House visit. Free agent QB Tommy Maddox, who was released by the team, did not attend the visit.

Maddox's, agent Vann McElroy told the Miami Herald, Maddox will visit with the Miami Dolphins and has also been in contact with the Cincinnati Bengals and Oakland Raiders. According to a Raiders source, the club has not scheduled a visit with Maddox.
