San Diego Padres RP Huston Street is close to being traded to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, according to sources.
Fantasy Tip: If Street lands with the Halos, he'd be expected to take over the closing duties from Joe Smith. Street's value would increase significantly, based on the fact that he's playing for a team that'll give him more save chances.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Joe Smith has eight saves and a win, retiring 26 of 27 batters faced in July. He has also not given up a hit in his last 10 appearances.
Fantasy Tip: Smith could lose save opportunities if the Angels add to their bullpen, but his recent performances could lessen that need.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Joe Smith struck out two in a perfect ninth inning for his 12th save Wednesday, July 9.
Fantasy Tip: Smith has five saves this month and appears to be in the driver's seat as closer, despite Jason Grilli's acquisition.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim acquired RP Jason Grilli from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for RP Ernesto Frieri.
Fantasy Tip: Grilli could become the Halos' closer immediately. If not, he has the stuff to take the job from Joe Smith before season's end. He should be picked up in AL-only leagues and mixed leagues if you have roster space.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said RP Joe Smith will be the team's closer until RP Ernesto Frieri returns to form.
Fantasy Tip: Smith is worth grabbing in mixed leagues if you need saves and he's available.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Kevin Jepsen asked pitching coach Mike Butcher for another chance to close for the team after he blew a save opportunity Saturday, June 21. "I told Butch, 'Don't let that one outing change your decisions,' I want that opportunity," Jepsen said. "In that situation, I'm coming right after guys. I'm not going to walk a guy or shy away from contact."
Fantasy Tip: While it's nice that Jepsen isn't shying away from the pressure, it would be even nicer had he closed out the game Saturday. As it stands, Joe Smith will likely get another chance to show he can handle the ninth inning.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim manager Mike Scioscia said the team will not use one pitcher in the closer role and that the matchup will determine the closer each game, which seems to indicate the team is moving away from RP Ernesto Frieri. RP Joe Smith was used in the ninth inning Thursday, June 19, and RP Cam Bedrosian was given the chance to save the game but was not able.
Fantasy Tip: It appears Frieri will not be closing games for the time being. Owners looking for more saves should consider picking up Smith, because he appears to be next in line. Owners in deeper leagues and AL-only leagues could take a flier on Bedrosian in case he gets some save chances.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Ernesto Frieri wasn't used to start the inning in a save situation against the Cleveland Indians Thursday, June 19, because manager Mike Scioscia said Frieri "has been struggling." Scioscia wanted to go with a different look, and he felt RP Cam Bedrosian could get the job done.
Fantasy Tip: Of course, Bedrosian loaded the bases and Frieri entered the contest to allow a game-winning grand slam. If you own Frieri or are just searching for more saves, Joe Smith would be a good pickup right about now.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Joe Smith pitched a scoreless ninth for his fifth save Wednesday, May 14. RP Ernesto Frieri set up for him in the eighth inning.
Fantasy Tip: Now they're just playing mind games with fantasy owners. Smith set up for Frieri the previous day. Both players are worth owning right now, but our bets are still on Frieri in the long haul.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim RP Ernesto Frieri closed out the ninth inning for his fifth save Tuesday, May 13.
Fantasy Tip: The telling sign that Frieri is back in the driver's seat is that Joe Smith pitched a perfect eighth inning. Frieri's last two appearances have resulted in saves. He looks to have a leg up in the closer committee once again.
