Giants | Jeff Samardzija tipped pitches in 2015

Fri, 11 Dec 2015 13:26:01 -0800

San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija said he tipped his pitches last season, and it was not discovered until the final weeks of the campaign.

Fantasy Tip: Pitching in the National League was kind to Samardzija, so his relocation to the Bay Area stands to propel his fantasy value back up into the middle tier of starting pitchers. And while there is upside for a 2014-type return (2.99 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 8.3 K/9), you shouldn't draft him with that expectation.

Giants | Jeff Samardzija headed to San Francisco

Sat, 05 Dec 2015 10:26:10 -0800

The San Francisco Giants have agreed to terms with free-agent SP Jeff Samardzija (White Sox) on a five-year deal worth $90 million. The deal is pending a physical which will be taken Tuesday, Dec. 8.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija struggled mightily with the White Sox in 2015, going 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA over 32 starts while leading the American League in hits, earned runs and homers allowed. However, he enjoyed most of his career success in the National League, so he is a prime bounce-back candidate who may benefit greatly from a change of scenery. Samardzija should be selected in the middle rounds of NL-only fantasy leagues and the later rounds of deep mixed leagues next year.

Dodgers | Los Angeles interested in Jeff Samardzija

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 18:05:44 -0800

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reached out to the agent for free-agent SP Jeff Samardzija (White Sox).

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija did not pitch well in 2015 but could be a prime bounce-back candidate if he returns to the National League, where he experienced his greatest amount of success. In 32 starts last season, the 30-year-old right-hander went 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA and led the junior circuit in hits allowed (228), earned runs allowed (118) and home runs allowed (29). As a result of his poor performance, he'll likely fall to the later rounds of most fantasy drafts but could be worth a flier depending on where he lands.

Cardinals | Jeff Samardzija interests St. Louis

Fri, 04 Dec 2015 16:08:35 -0800

Free-agent SP Jeff Samardzija (White Sox) is drawing interest from the St. Louis Cardinals after they finished as the runner-up in the David Price sweepstakes.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija was a disappointment in his one and only season with the Pale Hose, going 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 32 starts (214 innings). The Cardinals are well known for turning struggling starters around in a change of scenery, and Samardzija would represent an intriguing buy-low candidate in fantasy drafts next season.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija headed to free agency

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 14:18:42 -0800

Free-agents SP Jeff Samardzija (White Sox) rejected the Chicago White Sox's one-year, $15.8 million qualifying offer Friday, Nov. 13.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija projects to receive plenty of attention in the free-agent market, and his fantasy value will be heavily influenced by where he signs. Samardzija has bounce-back appeal for the 2016 season, especially if he returns to the National League. Stay tuned for updates.

Tigers | Detroit eyeing Jeff Samardzija, Ian Kennedy

Fri, 13 Nov 2015 13:14:25 -0800

Free-agent SPs Jeff Samardzija (White Sox) and Ian Kennedy (Padres) are offseason targets of the Detroit Tigers, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija really struggled in 2015, but there is upside for a bounce-back showing next season, especially if he lands back in the National League. Kennedy leaving pitcher-friendly PETCO Park can't be spun as a positive, and while he has shown flashes throughout his career, he isn't a matchup-proof starter in the majority of seasonal leagues. Landing spots will significantly impact where Samardzija and Kennedy will rank for fantasy drafts this spring.

Giants | San Francisco looking to upgrade rotation

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 13:27:06 -0800

Free-agent SPs Zack Greinke (Dodgers), Jeff Samardzija (White Sox) and Mike Leake (Giants) are pitchers of interest to the San Francisco Giants, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: While it would be foolish to expect Greinke to repeat his 1.66 ERA showing from 2015, he did post a 2.68 mark through 380 innings from 2013-2014. He is a top-tier arm. Samardzija had a rough 2015 season, so a return to the National League bodes well for the veteran. Leake isn't matchup proof so only in cavernous mixed and NL/AL-only leagues is he worth a permanent roster spot. Check back for updates on the Giants offseason activity.

Cubs | Jeff Samardzija could return to Cubs

Wed, 11 Nov 2015 11:47:11 -0800

The Chicago Cubs aren't ruling out a reunion with free-agent SP Jeff Samardzija (White Sox).

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija had a brutal year with the Pale Hose, so he's likely to leave for greener pastures, and a reunion on the North Side makes plenty of sense. His terrible 2015 campaign will have many fantasy owners avoiding him completely, but he's worth a late-round look depending on where he lands.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija receives offer

Fri, 06 Nov 2015 11:05:05 -0800

Chicago White Sox impending free-agent SP Jeff Samardzija received a $15.8 million qualifying offer from the White Sox Friday, Nov. 6.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija had a rough year in Chitown this year, going 11-13 with a 4.96 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 32 starts. He allowed a career-high 228 hits, 118 earned runs and 29 home runs on the year. He's probably benefit from a change of scenery and could be a real nice bounceback candidate for savvy fantasy owners that capitalize on his reduced 2016 price.

White Sox | Jeff Samardzija to receive offer

Sat, 17 Oct 2015 05:22:25 -0700

Chicago White Sox impending free-agent SP Jeff Samardzija will receive a qualifying offer from the White Sox this offseason, but he will reject the offer.

Fantasy Tip: Samardzija should receive interest from several teams this offseason and could be a target for teams not looking to sign one of the top free agents at the position. He had an ERA close to 5.00 this season and finished the regular season with an 11-13 record. Samardzija could be a middle-round option in deeper leagues next season.
